Primary Purpose of Position
The Honors College at North Carolina A&T State University invites applications for a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track Teaching Assistant or Associate Professor position. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for an appointment at the Teaching Professor level. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student engagement, and interdisciplinary learning.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Academics, the successful candidate will play a vital role in designing and delivering high-impact learning experiences that foster intellectual curiosity, leadership, and global awareness among Honors students. Primary duties include teaching undergraduate courses, facilitating tutoring and supplemental instruction, and advising honors students. The candidate will also support broader academic initiatives within the Honors College and the University, such as undergraduate research, service-learning, and professional development.

Candidates whose teaching and service align with the strategic vision of the Honors College and can foster collaboration across disciplines are highly desired. The faculty member will work closely with Honors leadership, faculty across disciplines, and university partners to ensure a dynamic academic environment for all Honors students. Additionally, they will contribute to recruitment, retention, and student engagement efforts, reinforcing the Honors College's commitment to academic excellence and student achievement. This includes collaborating with the Associate Dean of Research and Program Innovation for the Honors College and the Office of Undergraduate Research to expand research opportunities, the Associate Deans from the academic colleges to strengthen academic pathways, Career Services to enhance career readiness initiatives, and the University Student Success Office to support student achievement and persistence.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
N.C. A&T is a public, land-grant, doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of 14,311 students in Fall 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 36 master's programs, and 12 doctoral programs. It is America's top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor's programs, as well as a top-five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism. It also ranks no. 3 in master's degrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies and Related Fields, no. 4 in master's degrees in Engineering, and no. 11 best business school for women in the nation.

Minimum Requirements
Doctorate in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution.
At least three years of experience in teaching, academic advising, student mentoring, or curriculum development in a higher education setting.
Experience designing and implementing interdisciplinary or honors-level courses.
Demonstrated commitment to student success, undergraduate research, leadership development, or high-impact learning practices.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Experience working with high-achieving, first-generation, or diverse student populations in Honors or specialized academic programs.
Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and engage in curriculum innovation and program development.
Required License or Certification
