The Vertex Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. You will be working closely with and learning from some of the brightest people in the industry. Job Summary:

Join the Vertex Manufacturing Systems Automation and Digital Strategy team as we modernize how data is structured, shared, and understood across development and manufacturing functions. In this role, you'll help shape the internal ontology and governance model that powers our data platform-ensuring that scientists, engineers, and digital tools are all speaking the same language.

You'll partner closely with cross-functional teams and a fellow co-op focused on building a scientist-facing landing page, translating your structured data models into real-world experiences. Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and Maintain Data Ontology:
  • Translate internal processes and scientific concepts into a structured knowledge graph model based on a drafted ontology framework.
  • Associate entities, relationships, attributes, and metadata for development, clinical and commercial manufacturing processes, materials, methods, and workflows.
• Support Data Governance Infrastructure:
  • Support operation of a data governance board including driving collaborative resolution on select escalated topics.
  • Help establish naming conventions, controlled vocabularies, and reference models to promote data consistency and reuse.
  • Draft and iterate on governance guidelines for how data should be tagged, linked, secured and accessed across systems.
• Partner with UX Co-op on Data Integration:
  • Collaborate closely with the UX Co-op to ensure ontology and data structures support intuitive landing page functionality.
  • Co-develop a content map to support users in locating, accessing and leveraging available data.
• Stakeholder Collaboration & Verification:
  • Conduct working sessions and interviews with data owners, IT leads, and operational experts to verify model accuracy and ensure alignment with business context.
  • Iterate based on feedback and propose modifications to support future scalability.

Qualifications:

• Current student enrolled in a Masters or PhD Program in Engineering or Computer Science
• Familiarity with Manufacturing processes and operations
• Experience with knowledge graphs and data models through coursework, research or previous co-op experience
• Use of Snowflake and other database systems, familiarity with graph visualization tools and experience with business intelligence tools such as PowerBi
• Legal authorization to work in the United States, now and in the future. Please note that Vertex does not provide sponsorship for internships or entry level roles within this part of the organization.
• Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before July 2025
• Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from July - December 2025

Program Dates: July - December 2025, Full Time

Pay Range 30.00 - 50.00 USD/hour
