Counsel, North America Retail

General Mills' North America Retail segment is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic attorney to join our dynamic legal team. This role provides a unique opportunity to work directly with sales and marketing teams, advising on a wide range of commercial legal matters and contributing to the success of some of the world's most beloved food brands. You will be a trusted advisor, helping to navigate complex legal landscapes while supporting business objectives.

Given that collaboration is critical to the success of our team members, our teams, and our business, the expectation for this role will be to work in the office on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. Monday and Friday are flexible regarding your work location.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical, actionable legal advice to sales and marketing teams across various initiatives, including:
  • Sales strategy and commercial transactions
  • Marketing campaigns (integrated, omnichannel, events, promotions)
  • Antitrust compliance
• Analyze legal risks associated with sales and marketing activities, identifying potential issues and developing proactive solutions.
• Collaborate with business leaders to understand upcoming initiatives and provide strategic legal guidance.
• Review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of legal best practices within the sales and marketing functions.
• Work independently and as part of a collaborative team, managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritizing effectively.

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from a nationally accredited law school.
• At least 3-5 years of experience as an attorney working in a sophisticated legal practice; direct commercial-law or antitrust experience preferred but not required.
• Admitted (or willing to gain admission) to practice law in the state of Minnesota.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Strong business acumen and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical, actionable advice.
• Ability to build strong relationships with business clients at all levels of the organization.
• A proactive, collaborative, and solution-oriented approach to problem-solving.
• A passion for continuous learning and professional development.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $124200.00 - $207100.00 / Annually. At General Mills we strive for each employee's pay at any point in their career to reflect their experiences performance and skills for their current role. The salary range for this role represents the numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, educations, skills, work experience, certifications, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
