Job Description

The University of Missouri - St. Louis (UMSL) College of Education invites qualified professionals to apply for a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure track faculty position in Counselor Education. The Counseling Program, housed in the College of Education, offers CACREP-accredited master's degrees in school counseling and clinical mental health counseling as well as a CACREP-accredited PhD program in counselor education. The position requires teaching, supervising practica/internships, participating in service activities, and advising students. The regular teaching load is four courses per semester. The position is a nine-month academic year contract beginning August 2025. UMSL is an equal opportunity institution.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach graduate courses in counseling and counselor education each fall and spring, commensurate with the faculty member's expertise (summer teaching is available).
  • Supervise students completing Practicum or Internships.
  • Academically advise and support masters and doctoral Counseling students.
  • Demonstrate a willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues to support the mission of the institution and the Counseling Program.
  • Contribute to a welcoming culture in the program and college.
  • Serve on committees at the university and college level, as well as in the community.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Counselor Education from a CACREP accredited program (ABDs will be considered with completion by start date)
  • Experience as a counselor
  • Documented evidence of teaching excellence and contribution to student development
  • Documented evidence of professional goals and experience in alignment with the mission of an urban serving institution
  • Active membership in counseling related professional organizations at local, regional, and national levels

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialization in career counseling
  • Specialization in school counseling
  • Licensure eligible in Missouri

Expectations:

This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. This is a full-time 100% FTE benefits-eligible position. This position has no rights to tenure at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. Appointment is a nine month, non-tenured faculty position.

The Counseling Program is located in the Education Sciences and Professional Programs department at the University of Missouri- St. Louis. The department offers master's and doctoral
degrees in school and mental health counseling, school, psychology, higher education, and a bachelor's degree in educational studies.
