We're looking for a full-time, Sr Architect

to join our Mason and Hanger team located in our Virginia Beach, VA office.

Licensed architect who plans and provides support for the development of medium to large-scope projects with many complexities, executes and coordinates projects, and may oversee a staff of architects, designers, and technicians. Determines/validates scope of work and prepares proposals on the most complex projects. Provides oversight and monitoring of projects to architects and designers. May act in a team leader capacity in the absence of the project manager or act in a support role in the absence of a project architect or designer. Strong AutoCAD skills are required.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Leads, directs others, and participates in the production of project documents including Drawings (CAD/BIM), Specifications, and support documents. Checks work delegated to other architects and designers to ensure scope is documented. Leads construction phase contract administration activities such as Submittals, RFIs, and construction support. Performs architectural design and production.
  • Interprets, organizes, executes, and coordinates assignments. Guides others in architectural design and calculations.
  • Mentors and trains architects and designers, primarily through on-the-job development.


  • Serves as main contact for clients regarding architectural responsibilities.
  • Ensures positive client relationships. Supports business development through proposals and change modifications.
  • Performs other department support duties. Complies with data protection principles and secure practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Makes independent decisions on significant design issues. Develops new methods. Maintains broad perspective and proactive problem-solving.
  • Represents the architecture department in client engagements. Leads major projects. Participates in business development.
  • Serves as senior technical leader. Trains and mentors junior staff. Coordinates across departments and with clients.
  • Accountable for technical sufficiency as the Architect of Record.
  • Builds trusted team relationships. Maintains high quality and proactively seeks improvement and guidance.

Qualifications:

* Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Architecture from NAAB-accredited school

* Experience: 10+ years post-licensure

* Certifications: NCARB, LEED AP BD+C preferred

* Licenses: Registered Architect license

* Other: Ability to obtain security clearance

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $104,480-$156,720. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of collective bargaining agreements).
