DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

Conduct audit processes related to the Center for Medicare/Medicaid Service, Missouri HealthNet program, Office of the Inspector General, other governmental agencies, third-party payers, etc.

Participate on Health System-Wide Steering Committees, IT Implementation Teams, Revenue Cycle Committee, Value Analysis Team, monitoring of new revenue-producing departments, etc.

Monitor regulatory, coding guidelines, and managed care contracts to assess the impact on the chargemaster, billing claim logic, payment variance, and charge auditing processes.

Ensure all hospital charges are maintained in the chargemaster while making certain those charges optimize reimbursement and maintain compliance with pertinent government regulations, accepted coding guidelines, and managed care/commercial insurance contract terms and/or billing guidelines.

Ensure that appropriate training is provided to staff entering patient charges to validate understanding and importance of the timeliness, integrity, and accuracy of charge entry as well as to identify and assist in problem resolution and process improvement.

Ensure that correct charges are entered on patient accounts and can be verified by the documentation contained in the medical record, and if necessary, initiate appropriate training and tools with patient revenue-generating department staff to provide any necessary corrective action.

Manage projects including time frame, staff resources, other internal/external resources, computer system changes, impact and outcomes. Ensure IT systems or functionality changes are compliant.

Manage the development, coordination, and maintenance of daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of coverage and continuity of care.

Monitor and oversee time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely approval for payroll purposes.

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 and/or ICD-10 coding, DRG's, APC's and medical terminology.

Display a high level of problem solving, analytical and decision-making skills which include strong internet research abilities and an above average understanding of related computer systems and computer interfaces.

Ability to complete tasks involving a high degree of complexity and high risk.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.

Computer proficiency, especially related to Microsoft Office products, GE/IDX products, and Cerner products, and experience with contract modeling systems.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, public policy, computer science, or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired.

Five (5) years of revenue cycle or related experience.

Experience in preparing departmental budgets, developing job descriptions,

writing departmental policies and interviewing/hiring staff.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with implementation of ancillary computer systems and their related charge interfaces to patient billing system is highly desirable.

Experience with coordinating, reviewing and responding to governmental agency, i.e. OIG, requests, audits and other types of reviews is highly desirable.

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
