Job Description

The Faculty Hepatologist Physician will be responsible for providing high-quality patient care, engaging in academic research, and contributing to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows at Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital. This role combines clinical practice in hepatology with opportunities for research, scholarly activity, and teaching in an academic medical center. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment focused on advancing liver disease care and contributing to the academic mission of the institution.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert clinical care for patients with a variety of liver diseases, including but not limited to cirrhosis, hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatitis, and autoimmune liver disorders.
  • Participate in outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and consultative services.
  • Manage complex cases involving liver transplantation, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and other chronic liver conditions.
  • Perform and interpret diagnostic procedures such as liver biopsies, endoscopic procedures (e.g., ERCP), and transjugular liver biopsies.

Academic and Research Responsibilities:

  • Lead and contribute to innovative research projects related to hepatology, liver disease pathophysiology, treatment strategies, and liver transplantation.
  • Present research findings at national and international conferences and contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Develop and pursue independent research projects or collaborate with other researchers in the field of hepatology.
  • Seek and apply for research funding from governmental and private organizations.

Educational Responsibilities:

  • Teach, mentor, and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows in clinical hepatology, including bedside teaching, didactic lectures, and research projects.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of educational programs for trainees.
  • Contribute to the development of educational materials and resources related to hepatology.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and other institutional activities.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and clinical care pathway development.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including clinical notes, diagnostic reports, and treatment plans.

Required Qualifications:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree or equivalent.
  • Board-certified or board-eligible in Internal Medicine and Hepatology (or Gastroenterology with a focus in Hepatology).
  • Completion of a Hepatology fellowship program.
  • Valid medical license in the state or region of practice.
  • Strong clinical, teaching, and research skills with a commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in advanced liver disease management, including liver transplantation.
  • Research experience with a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Interest or expertise in innovative therapeutic approaches and clinical trials.
