TRIO Programs:

The Upward Bound Project ACE (Achieving Academic & Career Excellence) Program is designed to provide support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. Our goal is to recruit participants into the Upward Bound program, retain them, graduate them and prepare them for post-secondary education admittance and graduation.

The Opportunity:

The Summer Housing Assistant will reside on campus overnight to supervise Project ACE high school students during the Upward Bound residential week at UCF main campus.

This is a unique job opportunity for people who enjoy working with high school students and have group leadership skills. This position will work approximately 40 hours per week at $20 per hour, Sunday through Thursday, during an 8-hour shift that will be split between designated evening and morning hours.

Responsibilities:


  • Reside at UCF campus overnight, Sunday through Wednesday to supervise Project ACE students during the Upward Bound summer residential week.
  • Escort students to any activities conducted on campus, including breakfast and dinner meal breaks; always maintain proper staff to student supervision ratio; ensure students remain seated together during designated meal breaks.
  • Organize and implement student activities as outlined in the ACE residential evening calendar; adhere to the ACE calendar of student activities. Address discipline issues in collaboration with the Lead Summer Housing Assistant, Manager and Coordinator.
  • Follow protocol for the final residential day check-out process; collect staff and student residence hall keys and return to Lead SHA; collect and return designated ACE supply items to HPH 214.
  • Implement and enforce UCF residence hall safety procedures; maintain ethical standards of conduct in accordance with UCF Youth Protection Policy; other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma and one year of previous resident assistant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working with a varied range of middle and high school students in an academic and/or community setting.
  • Experience helping students develop individual learning goals and identify steps to reaching those goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • High energy and passionate about student success.
  • Strong commitment to working in a collaborative environment.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

The selected candidate must pass Level 1 and 2 background check per UCF requirements for working with minor youth.

The schedule for this position is as follows:


  • Sunday, 2:00 pm-10:30 pm
  • Monday-Wednesday, 7:00 am-9:00 am & 4:30 pm-10:00 pm (overnight schedule)
  • Thursday, 7:00 am-2:30 pm
