POSITION SUMMARY:

A post- graduate program of organized training that meets the requirements set forth and approved by the American Society of Hospital Pharmacists. The resident will participate in a pre-determined and regular schedule under supervision in the following activities of pharmacy service, for the minimum number of hours indicated: Departmental Administration - 240 hours, Drug Distribution and Control - Inpatient - 600 hours, Outpatient - 100 hours, IV Additive Service - 160 hours, Materials Management - 100 hours, Clinical Services - 100 hours, Drug Utilization Review - 100 hours, Drug Information Services - 200 hours, Collateral and Interdepartmental Activities - 100 hours, Lectures, Conferences, Seminars - 100 hours, Inservice Education - 100 hours, Elective Area of Interest - 100 plus hours. The training schedule consists of a minimum of 2,000 hours training time, extended over a period of 50 weeks. Guide to implementation of requirement: approximately 80% of the total schedule time is devoted to activities related to the operation of the department. The remaining 20% is devoted to attending lectures, seminars, conferences, conventions, visitation to other departments, other hospitals, and working on assigned research projects. The resident will receive a schedule of the areas of rotation on a monthly basis. The preceptor will be responsible for the resident's training. Educational benefits to residents are considered of paramount importance in relation to the service benefits which the hospital may obtain from the resident.

EDUCATION:

B.S. in Pharmacy, graduate of a School of Pharmacy.

EXPERIENCE:

Hospital experience preferred, but not mandatory, membership in professional organizations.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

Ability to perform work accurately with attention to detail within specified time periods. Ability to work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff. Ability to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule. Effective communication skills (orally and in writing).
