Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist I for the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist I is to be responsible for the management of a medium-sized laboratory area. Designs and conducts highly specialized, technical research.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Maintain expertise in handling large datasets, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance databases, as well as survey data.
  • Compiles and presents statistical data with appropriate conclusions and recommendations pertinent to research activity.
  • Executes data management and analysis using SAS or other statistical software, including performing data extractions, cleaning, and integration.
  • Supervises and provides training for full-time junior analysts, students, fellows, lower-level professionals and technicians in analysis, data management, etc. to develop the skills necessary to perform the required functions.
  • Establishes performance standards as well as the selection of methodology and instrumentation.
  • Synthesizes and presents various research and technical operations independently or as assigned, followed by appropriate reports, recommendations and conclusions.
  • Assists with the preparation of proposals, formal applications and justifications for grant applications.
  • Utilize SAS programming skills to manage and analyze large relational databases.
  • Leads communication efforts with investigators and staff to ensure clear understanding of data management processes and project needs.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in a relevant science, or a Master's Degree in a relevant science plus three (3) or more years of related research experience.
  • Experience working with healthcare claims data is required.
