This Director of Design & Construction role involves leading design and construction projects across EMEA and North America, ensuring they align with company standards, are completed on time and within budget, and meet sustainability goals. Key responsibilities include strategic planning, budget management, stakeholder communication, and risk mitigation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in design and construction management, strong leadership abilities, and familiarity with international building codes and project management software.
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement the overall design and construction strategy and project plans for the company's real estate construction projects in EMEA and North America. Establish and maintain design and construction standards and guidelines in alignment with Global Design & Construction team. Identify and evaluate new technologies and methodologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Lead the development of the project budget for the design and construction projects and manage expenses effectively. Lead the development of the annual and 3-year rolling capital budgets for all properties in the NAM and EMEA regions.
Project Oversight:
Oversee all phases of design and construction projects, from initial concept and design to construction and completion / closeout. Collect requirements from business stakeholders and feed them into design plans. Manage relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, project design services vendor and other consultants. Review and approve design documents, construction drawings, and specifications. Monitor project progress and identify and resolve any issues or risks. Ensure compliance with all applicable building codes, regulations, and environmental standards. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. Ensure drawings, CADs, etc. are stored and maintained in appropriate systems with timely delivery to stakeholders that manage databases.
Stakeholder Management:
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, such as business unit leaders, real estate, operations team, and finance teams. Partner with outsourced service providers. Communicate project updates and progress to senior Operations & Technology and business unit senior management.
Risk Management:
Identify and assess potential risks associated with design and construction projects. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies. Ensure that all projects are adequately insured.
Sustainability:
Implement sustainable design and construction practices. Ensure that projects meet or exceed green building standards (e.g., LEED, BREEAM).
About You
Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field (required). Advanced (Master's) degree is a plus. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in design and construction management, with a significant portion in a leadership role. Experience managing projects in both EMEA and North America is highly desirable. Experience working for a multinational corporation is a plus. Strong leadership and management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. In-depth knowledge of design and construction principles. Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project) and IWMS or CAD programs (e.g., Autocad, Archibus). Knowledge of building codes, regulations, and environmental standards in EMEA and North America. Financial acumen and budgeting skills. Problem-solving and decision-making skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Fluency in English is required; additional languages (Spanish, Portuguese, French) a plus. Given the international nature of the role, cultural awareness and adaptability are beneficial. Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $135,800 - $252,200.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
