AI Solutions Engineer, Legal Specialist

This role is ideal for someone with a background in computer science and legal expertise, such as a JD, or vice versa. As a member of Thomson Reuters Labs, you'll help transform legal research, compliance, and document review through cutting-edge AI solutions. You'll leverage state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) and advanced prompt engineering techniques to develop tools that empower legal professionals, reduce workload, and enhance the accuracy of legal AI systems.

About the Role: In this opportunity as a AI Solutions Engineer you will:
- Develop and Deliver: Apply modern software development practices to build, test, and deliver high-quality AI and ML-driven solutions for the legal domain.
- Build Scalable ML Solutions: Develop large-scale data processing pipelines that support innovative legal AI capabilities, including natural language processing, document summarization, and case law analysis.
- Legal Prompt Engineering: Design, test, and optimize prompts for AI assistants to ensure high-quality, accurate responses to legal queries. Work with interdisciplinary teams to refine these systems and integrate them into workflows.
- Leverage Legal Expertise: Collaborate with legal professionals to identify opportunities where AI can address specific challenges, from contract analysis to jurisdiction-specific case predictions.
- Be a Team Player: Work closely with technical, legal, and product teams to build impactful AI solutions tailored to legal users' needs.
- Innovate Responsibly: Ensure AI systems align with ethical and legal standards, incorporating safeguards to address issues like data confidentiality and AI bias.
- Be an Agile Innovator: Adapt to a fast-paced environment, taking ownership of solutions from conception to deployment, and iteratively refining approaches based on results.
About You: You are a fit for this AI Solutions Engineer role if your background includes:
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, a related field, or a Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
- At least 2-3 years of experience in software engineering or legal technology development, ideally involving machine learning (ML).
- Proficiency in Python and experience with software development best practices, emphasizing maintainability and testing.
- Hands-on experience with prompt engineering and optimization techniques, particularly for legal applications.
- A strong interest in real-world legal applications and the ability to translate legal workflows into AI solutions.
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies, cloud computing, and scalable systems development.
- A commitment to ethical AI usage, understanding confidentiality concerns, and crafting robust safeguards.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience working on legal AI systems, such as those for contract analysis, compliance, or legal research.
- Exposure to Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks like Named Entity Recognition (NER), Information Retrieval, and Document Summarization.
- Understanding of legal-specific datasets, standards, and challenges.
- Experience in designing systems that support iterative prompt engineering and testing for performance improvement.
- A proven knack for mastering new skills, especially at the intersection of engineering and legal workflows.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations.
For any eligible US locations, unless otherwise noted, the base compensation range for this role is $94,500 - $175,500.
This role may also be eligible for an Annual Bonus based on a combination of enterprise and individual performance.
Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual's knowledge, skills and experience with consideration given to internal equity. Base pay is one part of a comprehensive Total Reward program which also includes flexible and supportive benefits and other wellbeing programs.
