The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and diagnostic laboratory services. Position Summary |
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital (
VTH) Business Manager will play a crucial role in managing and optimizing the financial operations within the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The business manager will collaborate closely with veterinary staff, administrative teams, and external vendors on important
VTH financial processes. The
VTH Business Manager will be responsible for processing invoices, reconciling statements, maintaining accurate financial records, handling inquiries related to accounts payable, managing maintenance contract processing and renewals, managing consulting agreement processing and renewals, participating in monthly reconciliation of departmental accounts, expenses, and purchase orders, and support internal auditing processes. The business manager will work with other departments to resolve discrepancies and ensure compliance with university policies and procedures. Additionally, the business manager will work with the
VTH financial team and the
VTH administrative team to improve operational efficiency and reduce waste. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

- Maintain organized and accurate records of all account payable activities, ensuring that documentation is readily available for audits.
- Reconcile the Veterinary Teaching Hospital's change fund, petty cash, and purchase card transactions.

- Collaborate with hospital departments to ensure proper coding and approval of expenses.

- Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to enhancing the efficiency of accounts payable operations.
- Ensure compliance with university policies, state and federal regulations, and GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Complete position funding changes and Express Direct Retro Requests.
- Ensure proper calculation and reporting of sales tax on applicable transactions while maintaining accurate records of sales tax liabilities and payments.
