PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Owens Corning OEM business is the leader in providing thermal, acoustic, and fire retardant insulation solutions to OEM's including appliance, water heater, HVAC, automotive, and others. The Associate Engineer will support the Applications and Product Development teams in providing innovative solutions to customers and bringing new products to market. This position is based at the Owens Corning Science and Technology Center in Granville, Ohio.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

TESTING & SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT (60%)



  • Collaborates with applications engineering and material development teams to design comprehensive testing plans.
  • Conducts testing in various OEM laboratories, including acoustic, thermal, fire, and energy, utilizing advanced testing and data acquisition software.
  • Prepares and submits test requests, coordinating testing efforts with non-OEM and third-party laboratories.
  • Performs tear-downs and reverse engineering analysis.
  • Identifies gaps in testing capabilities and develops proposals to address them.
  • Creates new testing methodologies as required.
  • Analyzes test data to draw conclusions and determine subsequent steps in iterative testing processes.
  • Documents and communicates test results through detailed technical reports for both internal and external customers.
  • Collaborates with counterparts in customer laboratories to support concurrent and correlation testing efforts.


PROTOTYPING AND SAMPLE PREPERATION (30%)



  • Prepares customer prototypes and samples using a variety of cutting and prototyping technologies, including waterjet, laser cutting, die cutting, hand cutting, laminating, and applying facings and adhesives.
  • Prepares and coordinates samples for testing at both internal and external laboratories.


LAB ORGANIZATION AND SAFETY SUPPORT (10%)



  • Demonstrates an unwavering commitment to safety and adherence to Owens Corning's safety procedures and policies.
  • Serves as the safety champion for OEM laboratories, actively participating in safety activities and representing OEM in broader site safety teams.
  • Ensures a safe work environment for self and coworkers by managing lab and rough work areas, maintaining equipment, and creating and updating safety documentation.
  • Writes and updates Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) for lab equipment.
  • Organizes and inventories test units in the storage area.
  • Organizes and inventories raw material storage areas.
  • Assists in coordinating test chamber schedules.
  • Performs cleaning and maintenance of lab equipment.
  • Coordinates with facilities on maintenance and repair needs for the area.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology.
  • Hands-on mechanical skills, including the ability to operate and maintain equipment.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding engineering drawings and prints.
  • Skilled in using computer software, including the MS Office Suite.
  • Capable of maneuvering objects up to 40 lbs and standing for extended periods.
  • Qualified to drive a forklift and obtain a forklift license.
  • Experienced in creating and manipulating CAD drawings.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% for customer, vendor, and supplier meetings.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Experienced in designing and conducting trials, including data collection.
  • Proficient in data analysis.
  • Background in a manufacturing and/or R&D environment.
