About the Job

Summary of Position:
Investigate mechanisms required for faithful genome transmission in eukaryotic cells. Determine functions and regulation of DNA Topoisomerase II and PICH required for accurate mitotic chromosome segregation in mammalian cells. Probe downstream effects in terms of genome stability including chromosome mis-segregation and aneuploidy. Evaluate phenotypes of Topoisomerase II and PICH mutants and effects of PICH inhibitors on cancer cells.

Position Duties / Responsibilities

80% - Laboratory research including engineering of mammalian cell genomes using CRISPR/Cas9 editing, cell cycle synchrony experiments, analysis of chromosome segregation, immunostaining, live cell microscopy, and quantitative image analysis. Biochemical analysis including preparation of recombinant proteins, preparation of samples for proteomics analysis, PAGE, Western blotting. Molecular biology, including cloning.

15% - Manuscript preparation, including statistical analysis, figure preparation, writing, and editing. Data presentation at lab meetings and journal clubs.

5% - Dissemination of outcomes at research conferences.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. degree in the biological sciences.

Preferred Qualifications
-- 4 years of laboratory research experience in an area related to the project description.
-- Track record including publications demonstrating experience in mammalian cell cycle regulation and chromosome biology.
-- Experienced with genome engineering of mammalian cells and validation.
-- Experienced with microscopy. Proficient in data analysis software (excel, GraphPad, etc.) and Image Processing software (e.g., ImageJ).
-- Biochemistry skills to include preparation of active recombinant enzymes. Preparation of samples for mass spectrometry.

About the Department

The Department of Genetics, Cell Biology, and Development comprises faculty from both the Medical School and the College of Biological Sciences. Faculty members are engaged in research in three key disciplines of the department-genetics, cell biology and developmental biology.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $61,008 - new equivalent NIH Stipend level if announced; depending on education/qualifications/experience
