Facilities Access Control Specialist - Central Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Maintains the integrity and operates the facilities access control and security systems. This also includes development of specifications, review of proposed designs, and installation of components, maintenance of control systems and mechanisms, and implementation of system upgrades for all College facilities.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Provide daily control, scheduling and operations of SJC facilities electronic access control systems (DNA Fusion, Keystone). These systems are used to remotely lock and unlock buildings throughout the College and manage the physical key processes. Manage database of access approvals for all College employees.
  • Manage fabrication of cut keys and inventory of existing mechanical keys and inventory of mechanical related hardware for approximately 100,000 locks within 72 College buildings totaling 2.76 million square feet.
  • Manages or fabricates replacement keys for College furniture, cabinetry / millwork, and locked equipment.
  • Provide repair services and upgrades for access control systems. Assesses serviceability of salvaged equipment for reuse where appropriate.
  • Manages specification guidelines and design details for College facilities access control systems and devices.
  • Provide troubleshooting and repair services for all accessibility / handicap door systems.
  • Assist in developing security plans in collaboration with College leadership. Design access control hierarchies for College buildings.
  • Manage troubleshooting and repair services for all College access control systems through the College Computerized Maintenance Management System (TMA). Plan work, execute, comment, and close and work orders as necessary when work tasks are assigned.
Additional Job Functions:
  • Provide design consultation for new building and renovations with regard to access control installations, operability, and reliability.
  • Provide technical consultation for vendor and sales representatives when new installations are being carried out at the College.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of security systems, hardware, and function of both mechanical and electronic access control systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation.
  • Ability to understand and operate access control software systems.
  • Ability to analyze complex access control problems; plan, communicate, and implement solution.
  • Demonstrate superior customer service skills while dealing with the needs of almost 3500 College employees.
Required Education:
  • High school diploma or GED
Preferred Education:
  • 2 yr. post high school training or education.
Required Experience:
  • 5 years commercial access control experience, as well as, troubleshooting, repair, installation, and operating experience.
Preferred Experience:
  • Knowledge of Best Lock Systems (IC Core); experience in electronic access control software.
  • Five years' experience in an educational setting.
  • Knowledge of HPC Inc. code software.
  • In depth knowledge of complex, multi-tiered commercial master key systems.
  • Experience in opening failed locking mechanisms with minimal damage.
Preferred Licenses/Certifications:
  • Texas Locksmith Association License
Note: The duties of this position require a physical presence at the assigned on-site work location during unrestricted operations with very limited or no opportunity for remote work arrangements.

Salary Grade: 107
