LOCATION: Remote - this is a home based, virtual position that operates from 8:30am-5:00pm EST. Preference will be given to candidates that live within 2 hours of Asheville NC. Must have the ability to travel to the Asheville NC office if needed. GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB The Employee Relations Consultant (ERC) is an experienced and trusted partner who provides guidance and employee relations subject matter expertise to leaders and employees in promoting and fostering a fair, inclusive, productive and collaborative work environment. The ERC is responsible for the timely response to and engagement in employee relations matters and serves as a coach and consultant to both leaders and employees of Vaya Health. Occasionally, the ERC will engage with outside parties in an effort to investigate and/or resolve matters. The ERC understands, interprets and follows NC state and local government policies and Vaya policies and procedures, working with department leaders and employees to apply policies consistently and fairly across the organization. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Serves as a consultant to leadership and employees. Acts as an employee advocate, as necessary.
- Advises leadership and employees regarding their rights and responsibilities under state, federal and local laws, as well as Vaya Health best practices, to achieve effective and consistent application of all laws and policies
- Provide day-to-day facilitation and dispute/conflict resolution best practices to department leaders and employees to reduce employment related conflicts and risk
- Partner with leaders and employees of all levels of the organization to deploy creative solutions to sometimes complex human resource problems, applying ER intervention and support, as needed
- Coordinate and assist in resolving a wide variety of complex human resource issues, including interpretation of Vaya Health's human resource and other policies, procedures, and practices related to progressive discipline, performance management, accommodation requests, work restrictions, leaves of absence, fitness-for-duty, and employee assistance during crisis situations
- Investigate and resolve harassment, discrimination and/or retaliation complaints and proposes solutions to address wider concerns, when necessary.
- Assist with employee engagement initiatives to improve work relationships, build team morale, and increase productivity and retention
- May gather and review exit interview data, then collaborates with the appropriate HR colleague and/or business leader to strategically plan for workforce changes, improvements, and department trainings
- Serve as a change agent in organizational restructurings
- Actively listen to fully understand the problem, applying sound judgment and problem-solving skills
- Strategize with HR colleagues to advise leaders and/or employees on the best course of action
- May assist with professional development, retention and recognition and reward programs
- Advise leaders in areas of team and self-development.
- Coach employees and leaders, as appropriate for professional development.
- Stay current and understand trends in Human Resources and Employee Relations
- Assess organizational readiness for all newly developed content or programming.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the organization
- Champion diversity and promote an inclusive work culture
- May conduct training on HR-related material for leaders and/or employees
- May participate on internal Committees as a member or lead
KNOWLEDGE OF JOB

- Knowledge of NC Office of State Human Resources policies and statues preferred
- Knowledge of state and federal labor laws
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree is required, a Master's degree is preferred. Must have seven (7) or more years of experience in Human Resources with at least four (4) years handling Employee Relations or Labor Relations matters required. Experience with and knowledge of the NC Office of State Human Resources regulations, policies, and statutes preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparation and analysis of documents; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading.
- Physical activity in this position includes crouching, reaching, walking, talking, hearing and repetitive motion of hands, wrists and fingers.
- Sedentary work with lifting requirements up to 10 pounds, sitting for extended periods of time.
- Mental concentration is required in all aspects of work.
