About the Job

Position Summary:
This position covers up to 15% effort (6 hours per week). This person will support PI Dr. G. Nic Rider to manage a grant-funded research project. Responsibilities include but are not limited to project timeline management, assisting with literature reviews, developing research designs and data collection protocols, data collection, analysis, curriculum design and development, and dissemination of findings from the project.

About the Work:
Sexual violence is a significant human rights issue and public health concern in the United States, and victim-survivors of sexual violence have the right to dignified, trauma-informed post- assault care. This multidisciplinary project builds upon a previous exploratory research study that found that although most medical students believe it is important that they learn about sexual
violence and trauma-informed care in the context of sexual violence disclosure, many medical students also believe that the current amount of time spent on the topic in their formal medical
education is insufficient. Objectives of this study are the following: 1) to establish an understanding of the perceived barriers and facilitators to implementing a curriculum on this topic for medical students at the University of Minnesota Medical Schools, and 2) to develop a curriculum to improve students' knowledge about sexual violence and skills in providing trauma- informed care in the context of sexual violence disclosure, including the creation of a graphic /comic booklet. This project has the potential to significantly impact the rights to health, privacy, and dignified post-assault healthcare for victim-survivors of sexual violence by addressing a significant gap in current medical education.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with PI to develop timeline and tracking plans to implement project goals on time
  • Identify and troubleshoot project needs, challenges, and barriers
  • Work with PI to develop and implement research designs and data collection plans
  • Assist with drafting IRB documents
  • Monitor data collection processes and procedures, and identify areas for improvement
  • Create data collection protocols and guidelines
  • As needed recruit and schedule participants for data collection as well as conduct interviews or focus groups
  • Mentor and support other study team members who are participating in data collection, including participating in hiring and training
  • Assist with data organization, management, and analysis
  • Prepare reports and summaries of the data collected
  • Lead and contribute to study dissemination
  • Work with PI and other study team members to create, implement, and evaluate educational curriculum to be included in UMN medical education

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree and 2 years of related experience or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting research related to sexual violence or related issues
  • Experience with qualitative data collection and analysis
  • Completed PhD-level coursework
About the Department

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Minnesota was created more than 50 years ago in response to a legislative mandate to train primary care physicians. Pay and Benefits

Pay Rate: $27.00 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
