Position Overview:
The Office of Information Technology (OIT) at the University of Minnesota is seeking a DevOps Engineer to provide support for key business processes across the University of Minnesota. As a member of the PeopleSoft Support & Administration (PSSA) team, this position maintains the stability of the Oracle PeopleSoft ERP system including its tightly coupled applications.

This position requires the ability to work effectively and efficiently in teams and independently; to create and maintain a variety of environments and architectures; to adapt to and quickly learn new systems and technologies; and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a close attention to detail and minimal oversight.

Strong interpersonal communication skills are required in this role, including the ability to convey deep technical information to team members consisting of database, software, system administrators, software developers and management, and the ability to convey technical information in general terms that non-technical users can understand. The ideal candidate will take a full-stack view of system resilience, reliability, and security and bring skills in automation and monitoring.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee environment performance, database refreshes, change management, migration of objects/code, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of escalated issues for the PeopleSoft ERP systems.
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code methodologies across configuration and infrastructure using a combination of scripting languages and other automation toolkits (e.g. Ansible, GitHub, Rundeck).
  • Maintain system resiliency and reliability by building highly observable systems. Enhance infrastructure and application monitoring and alerts to meet Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) best practices.
  • Lead technical project work (e.g., application updates, quarterly security patching, system upgrades, implementation of new technologies),
  • Collaborate with Product Owner, Product Manager, and stakeholders to identify opportunities for modernization at all stack levels, working across teams to leverage emerging technologies and practices.
  • Create internal and external facing standard operating procedures. Document team procedures, flowchart, diagrams.
  • Serve in an on-call rotational capacity with other PSSA team members.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of related work experience or master's degree plus 2 years of experience.
  • Experience with administrating a large-scale application, such as an ERP system, including support and upgrades/patching.
  • Solid understanding of software stack including OS (Linux, Windows), WebLogic, database (Oracle, mySQL), networking, firewalls, load balancing.
  • Experience working with Oracle DB for administration, troubleshooting, and SQL tuning.
  • Solid understanding of DevOps and experience with IaC tools such Bash, Python, Git, Ansible, Rundeck.
  • Experience with log management & analytics tools such as ELK stack, Splunk, or OpenSearch.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with one or more cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or OCI.
  • Experience supporting and managing Oracle PeopleSoft system.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: : $107,000 - $130,000 annually; depending on qualifications and experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
