Reporting to the Head of Scholarly and Institutional Resources, the Electronic Resources Librarian assists in the acquisition, management, and discovery of electronic resources and also serves as the primary library cataloger. This position works closely with the Reference and Instruction librarians and circulation staff to ensure all library resources are easily discoverable and displayed in a patron-friendly manner. The Electronic Resources Librarian works with other Library staff to improve accessibility of online instructional and research tools. The Electronic Resources Librarian collaborates to support staff development related to technology and e-resources and may participate in library instruction.

Examples of Duties

I. ADMINISTRATION 20% A.Electronic Resource Management: 1.Assists the Head of SIR in the acquisition, licensing, and renewal of electronic resources, such as databases, e-books, and online journals. 2.Assists Head of SIR in tracking and analyzing usage statistics to inform collection development decisions. 3.Develops and implements strategies to improve access to and discovery of electronic resources. 4.Works with the Reference & Education librarians and Circulation staff to ensure electronic resources are accessible through the library catalog, discovery system, authentication system, and link resolvers. 5.Serves as back-up administrator for Open Athens Authentication system. 6.Along with the Head, SIR, oversees the management of ALMA/PRIMO.
B.Collection Development and Analysis: 1.Monitors usage statistics for electronic resources to inform collection development decisions. 2.Analyzes usage trends to identify areas where the collection can be improved. 3.Identifies emerging trends in electronic resources and recommends new acquisitions.
II.SERVICE 65% A.Cataloging: 1.Creates and maintains bibliographic records in the library's cataloging system (e.g., ALMA, OCLC, WorldCat). 2.Classifies and indexes materials according to established standards (e.g., LCSH, Mesh). 3.Ensures accurate and timely cataloging to facilitate user discovery. 4.Collaborates with other librarians and staff to maintain cataloging standards and best practices. 5.Performs routine and complex ordering and receiving activities in ALMA.
B.Technical Services: 1.Provides technical support for library systems and services, including the integrated library system, discovery tools, and electronic resource management systems. 2.Stays current with emerging technologies and trends in library automation and digital resources. 3.Collaborates with IT staff to ensure seamless integration of library systems with campus-wide systems. 4.Works with the Program Coordinator for Patron Services and Reference Librarians in evaluating and customizing the library discovery system including the user interface and search scopes to ensure an optimal user experience. 5.Reviews accessibility of online library products to ensure usability for persons with disabilities. 6.Works with vendors to troubleshoot and resolve licensing and access issues. 7.Monitors and maintains electronic resource access, including troubleshooting technical problems.
C. User Support and Services: 1.Participates in library outreach and promotion activities. 2.Develops user guides and documentation for accessing electronic resources. 3.Works with patrons to identify research and resource needs. 4.Integrates web-based library products into the library website, including the discovery system, electronic resources, virtual reference tools, research guides, forms, etc.
D. Acquisitions & Licensing: 1.Evaluates and recommends new electronic resources based on user needs and budget limitations. 2.Negotiates complex licensing agreements with vendors to ensure optimal access and usage terms. 3.Manages subscription renewals and cancellations for electronic resources in ALMA and appropriate systems (Docline, OCLC)
III. TEACHING 10%
1. Offers instruction and training on library resources and services. 2.Collaborates with librarians to promote relevant electronic resources to specific user groups 3.Provides training for library staff and users on how to effectively use electronic resources and advance technology awareness and learning of new electronic resources and other research and reference service delivery tools.
IV. RESEARCH 5%
Pursues research interests in areas of information science and medical informatics.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS A.Completion of a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited school. B.Experience with cataloging and familiarity with cataloging standards and best practices. C.Strong public service commitment. D.Familiarity with databases and electronic resources used in scholarly research (PubMed, Web of Science, EBSCO, OVID, etc.) E.Flexibility and the ability to work well with people. F.Familiarity with current technologies and communication methods. G.Professional commitment. H.Excellent oral and written communication skills. I.Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
A.Experience with ALMA/PRIMO VE B.Working knowledge of MARC and Metadata standards C.Familiarity with the Springshare suite (LibGuides, LibAnswers, LibCal, etc). D.Health sciences librarianship coursework or experience

Supplemental Information

The budgeted annual salary range is $56,000-$61,600. The final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, and budget constraints. Additional incentive compensation may also be available for clinical work performed beyond the standard scope of responsibilities.
