Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Analyst for the Office of Institutional Research. The Senior Analyst reports to the Associate Director and the Director of Data Analytics and Management and provides strategic analysis for the office's core activity of capturing, extracting, analyzing, and reporting data on faculty, students, staff and other critical academic, physical and financial information for leadership decision-making purposes and external reporting requirements.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Develops and assesses statistical models to support decision making in various areas, including enrollment management, academic program review, academic outcomes (retention/graduation), and other institutional priorities.
  • Works independently with broadly defined objectives, collects and synthesizes a wide variety of qualitative and quantitative data (academic, financial, operational, market, demographic) from disparate internal and external sources to generate useful and actionable insights that assist in the decision-making processes.
  • Leads and manages the analysis of international and domestic guides, rankings and analysis of other reporting projects of the Office and university (e.g. THE, US News, etc.)
  • Creates appropriate, well thought out institutional metrics, with detailed documentation, including project and meeting notes and data logic used for all work performed.
  • Manages assigned projects and workflow, providing status reports to supervisors.
  • Deliver's and maintains data reports, reconciles data discrepancies and provides accurate and timely data.
  • In partnership with others, develops, manages, and maintains systems for collecting data important to central administration, school, departmental administration, and faculty.
  • Establishes a framework for research and evaluative projects and processes, using both qualitative and quantitative research and data analyses.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, social science, or in a related scientific field.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience in higher education or a social science field combined with some higher education experience.

Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Statistical programming skills (Stata, SPSS, SAS, JMP, or R, etc.) and experience with visualization tools (Tableau, etc.).
  • Knowledge of data management and data analysis software.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills; the ability to work collaboratively and collegiality with faculty and staff.
  • Ability to work independently; and the ability to work with individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives on data usage.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in applied mathematics, statistics, social science, or in a related scientific field or discipline.
  • Three years of experience of more advanced statistical analyses than OLS regression
  • Experience of predictive modeling with machine learning
  • Three years of experience with relational databases such as SQL Server
  • A strong technical aptitude and desire to keep up with the latest technological and data management advances.
  • Experience in Institutional Research related environments.

Equipment Utilized
  • Should have statistical programming skills and experience (Stata, SPSS, SAS, R, or JMP, etc.)
