The Vahsen lab in the Odum School of Ecology is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented individual for the full-time position of Lab Manager/Lead technician ("Research Professional"). The Vahsen lab studies the eco-evolutionary dynamics of coastal marsh plants, integrating data collected from experiments and observational studies with numerical and statistical models. |

Position Summary |
The incumbent will oversee field, greenhouse, and lab research on plant ecology and evolution, contribute to data management, analysis and writing, and will oversee daily operations. The incumbent will have the opportunity to contribute to several research projects and will be integral member of the lab group. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
* Experience in plant ecology or evolutionary biology research.
* Flexible and can manage multiple priorities.
* Excellent at record keeping, attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
* Experience in data management.
* Proficient in data manipulation, visualization and analysis in R.
* Experience in writing scientific papers.
* Ability to coordinate logistics within lab group and with research collaborators.
* Ability to work in team setting or independently as needed. |
Physical Demands |
- This position will involve conducting field work in coastal marshes, often in hot and humid conditions.
- Driving long distances may be required for field work campaigns.
- Sitting for long periods at the bench or computer.

Greenhouse and lab work focusing on maintenance of plant collections and maintaining greenhouse experiments. Other research tasks include equipment maintenance, data management, data analysis, contributing to writing scientific papers, and regular meetings with the PI and lab group to discuss research results. |

Field research on coastal marsh plant ecology, primarily in the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland and at the Georgia coast. Field research involves travel to field sites, sampling sediment cores, meeting with site managers, assisting with mesocosm experiment set-up and breakdown, coordinating logistics. 10% Training and supervising undergraduate assistants in field and lab research. |
