Lathrop GPM, one of the nation's leading law firms, has an immediate opening for a Trademark Paralegal in any of these locations Minneapolis, MN; Kansas City, MO; or Chicago, IL, with a preference for the Minneapolis, MN location. The trademark paralegal will provide support to attorneys and firm clients. Responsible in assisting in all aspects of U.S. and foreign trademark prosecution.

Lathrop GPM is a full-service, Am Law 200 law firm with offices in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Minneapolis, Overland Park, St. Cloud, St. Louis, San Jose, Redwood Shores and Washington, D.C. Two days in office/three days remote (home office).

Responsibilities:

  • Manage clients' domestic and international trademark portfolios. Prepare and electronically file US trademark applications, renewals, assignments, and other prosecution documents. Correspond with foreign counsel regarding foreign trademark applications, registrations, and recordals.
  • Communicate with clients regarding status reports, portfolio reports, and prosecution issues.
  • Monitor deadlines for trademark matters and ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • Assist with domestic and foreign opposition and cancellation matters.
  • Maintain working knowledge of process and procedure before the Trademark Office.
  • Perform online trademark clearance searches on USPTO, international databases and Saegis.
  • Coordinate legalization of documents
  • Provide support to trademark attorneys.
  • Act as a liaison between attorney and client.
Requirements

* Formal paralegal training from an accredited program, preferably a 4-year degree program; or equivalent experience

* Minimum of 5 years of experience working as a trademark paralegal in a law firm or corporate setting.

* Conversant and comfortable with the laws that govern trademarks.

* Ability to conduct research utilizing online tools such as USPTO, international databases and Saegis.

* Ability to problem-solve.

* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively in a virtual environment (e.g., via phone, web/videoconference).

* Ability to concentrate on tasks, make decisions and work calmly and effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-orientated environment.

* Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in taking initiative while asking for direction or clarification and consulting others, as appropriate.

* Willingness to be flexible with time and adjust to a changing work environment.

* Ability to build and maintain positive relationships, both internally and externally, while maintaining a client service orientation.

* Ability to use sound judgment and discretion in dealing with highly confidential information.

* Ability to maintain stamina throughout a standard workday, on- and off-site.

* Ability to maintain regular attendance and work regularly scheduled hours.

* Ability to take direction and accept supervision.

* Demonstrate ability to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations.

* Ability to work effectively with co-workers in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Current anticipated salary range for applicants as required by applicable state laws is $78,000 - $95,000 depending on experience in Minnesota, $80,000 - $102,000 depending on experience in Chicago. Actual salary will vary and may be above or below the range. Full comprehensive benefit plan including health care, retirement plan and paid days off, including PTO, parental leave, and short/long term disability.
