Athletic Academic Success Coordinator/Assistant Coach, Athletics - North Campus

Essential Job Functions:

Coordinator for Athletic Academic Success: Identify and implement adjustments to increase opportunity for academic success in the Athletics Department through:



  • Oversees academic progress by implementing and guiding athletes into identifying and following an academic success plan.
  • Coordinates and utilizes the college's resources that increase success and implementing them into the athletics departments. Resources may include: administrators, faculty, staff, students, Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, Business Office, Testing Center, Student Life, The Student Success Centers, First Year Experience, Student Development, and Academic Advisors. These offices may be at San Jacinto College and/or from other intuitions where athletes may transfer from or to.
  • Maintains current knowledge of SJC degree completion requirements, NJCAA eligibility requirements, as well as NCAA and NAIA compliance regulations.
  • Raises awareness of potential academic success risks of student-athletes.
  • Tracks semester & cumulative GPAs, as well as current progress for momentum point milestone and degree completion progress.
  • Implements study hall and any additional tutoring as necessary for student-athletes to ensure academic success.
  • Provides reports on academic success rates of student athletes throughout the year, as necessary.


Assistant Coach: Assist in the development of well-rounded student-athletes who compete at their highest level athletically and academically while instilling leadership qualities for life through:



  • Assigned Coaching duties: preseason, season, and postseason; training and conditioning; competition and practice.
  • Assist in the supervision of the athletes on and off campus, including but not limited to housing, discipline, training, mentoring, and academic Strength and Conditioning.
  • Game planning and film analysis.
  • Track and submit statistics.
  • Collegiate recruitment of student-athletes.
  • Collegiate public exposure and representation.
  • Scheduling and travel arrangements.
  • Expect and responsible for significant travel responsibilities with the assigned sport for all school.
  • sponsored events, recruitment, and other as assigned by supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Successful candidate will have working knowledge of mentoring young athletes for academic success, including monitoring eligibility, momentum point milestones, degree completion requirements, as well as professional development of our student-athletes.
  • Demonstrated experience in driving academic success and raising graduation rates for student-athletes.
  • Applicant should also demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of students, faculty, and staff from a variety of backgrounds, embracing diversity and inclusion.
  • The successful candidate must be student-oriented, promote excellence, and embrace a commitment to professionalism.
  • Will possess effective verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Should possess basic computer skills including but not limited to MS Word, Excel, and advanced statistical programs for assigned sport as well as the designated stat program for the NJCAA.
  • Must pass the school approved driver requirements and the College's requirements for a procurement card.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.


Required Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or other sports related degree.


Required Experience:



  • Minimum of 2 years of Collegiate Coaching experience in assigned sport (note: emphasis on recruiting for the baseball position).

Salary Grade: 110
