This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Assistant Professor is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center, one of the nation's foremost academic health science center's working together with one of the nation's premier health systems, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Division of Neonatology, Comfort Care Program at CUMC in Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is seeking a Part Time Psychologist. This is an academic faculty position with a focus on:

Family Support



  • Provide family support through screening, assessment and treatment as needed for NCCP families. The psychologist should demonstrate competency in the interpretation of screening tests and/or psychological test results. Treatment modalities for perinatal emotional distress (including, but not limited to PPD, PTSD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder) may include individual or couples' therapy.
  • Provide services aimed at supporting families throughout the perinatal journey including offering mental health therapy.
  • Foster relationships with psychiatrists and other referral resources as needed.
  • Co-facilitate monthly bereavement support group for parents.


Interdisciplinary Consultation, Psycho-education and Health and Well-Being Programming



  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary NCCP team to support the care of individual families within the guidelines of confidentiality. This may involve attending medical and/or psychosocial or discharge planning rounds on weekly basis.
  • Develop and implement supportive services for NCCP staff, based on their needs, including conducting a support group for staff but mostly talking with staff individually on an as-needed basis and at times providing referrals to appropriate behavioral health resources or other supportive services.


Research/Quality Improvement



  • Support research efforts of the NCCP as needed including helping to keep the NCCP team abreast of pertinent current research findings.


  • Must have a PsyD (professional doctoral degree) in Clinical Psychology and an active NYS License.
  • Must have experience in Neonatology.
  • Consistently strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with professionals in other disciplines.
  • The ability to create a high-energy results-oriented work environment that encourages colleagues and staff to value each other's contributions.
  • The ability to share and celebrate success with colleagues and staff

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.
