The Associate Director of FP&A, Cell & Gene Therapy Manufacturing is key member of Vertex's Financial Planning & Analysis organization, providing financial direction and strategic insights to our Chemistry, Manufacturing & Control (CMC) functions supporting Cell and Gene Therapy (CGT) functions within our Biopharmaceutical Sciences and Manufacturing Operations (BSMO) organization. This role will lead strategic financial planning processes, partnering with business leaders across the CMC functions, drive reporting and financial modeling, and help the functional business leaders to deliver against our company and functional goals.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial direction and strategic insight to the functional leaders. Helps to define and deliver against short term and long-term goals, including identification of key value drivers and Business KPIs.

  • Provides strategic decision support, influencing decisions and identifying opportunities to invest, save costs and mitigate risks on a global basis.

  • Leads the financial planning process (budget, forecast, long range plan) across CGT. Provides meaningful forward-looking direction, to develop key scenarios, and to identify key risks/uncertainties and plans for potential mitigation.

  • Leads the financial performance management process across the CMC functions supporting CGT, with a focus on influencing business operations and decisions through an understanding of key performance drivers, risks, and opportunities.

  • Creates senior-level presentations to communicate program performance, strategic insights, key business risks & opportunities, and financial recommendations.

  • Partners within FP&A and other members of the CFO organization (Corporate Finance, Accounting, Strategic Sourcing) to ensure there is clear ownership and management of the deliverables from those teams, Finance services are delivered seamlessly to the business.

  • Ensures the financial integrity and robust corporate governance and compliance of all financial aspects for areas of responsibility.

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics or Accounting required. MBA and/or other advanced degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of experience in FP&A, Finance or related roles within the biotech, pharma, or life sciences industry, with a focus on manufacturing and technical operations.

  • Expert analytical and financial modeling skills to evaluate a broad range of financial questions.

  • Proven ability to create and manage complex budgets, forecasts, and analyses in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and a proven ability to present complex financial insights to senior stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated success in leading process improvement and change management initiatives.

Important Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving.

  • Expertise with Excel and PowerPoint; Working knowledge of Hyperion or similar enterprise planning tools; experience with business intelligence and visualization tools a plus.

  • Ability to lead and drive change in an evolving business environment, coordinating processes involving large numbers of people, complex systems, and tight deadlines to deliver innovative solutions.

  • Strong business acumen and judgment, and knowledge of the company's markets/products and industry trends.

  • Strong and effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and an eagerness to collaborate with colleagues (within or outside of finance) in sharing insights and learnings and partnering to ensure timely execution of project plans.

  • Capacity to understand pharmaceutical sciences, manufacturing, and technical operations to address a broad range of challenges and business issues with the ability to make and facilitate quick decisions.

  • Possesses a continuous improvement mindset, with flexibility and ability to adapt to change.

  • In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:

(1) Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select

(2) On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.

Pay Range:

$156,000 - $234,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
