McMillen, Inc. is looking for a Site Civil Engineer - Grading Design with strong experience in grading design to join our growing team. This position involves designing and managing grading, drainage, and earthwork components for a wide range of site development projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of civil engineering principles, be capable of independent project work, and work collaboratively with senior engineers and other project stakeholders to deliver successful site design solutions.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and preparation of grading plans that address site grading, stormwater management, and erosion control for commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects. Includes generating contours, slopes, drainage patterns, and cut-and-fill calculations.
  • Design and implement effective stormwater management strategies, ensuring compliance with local and state regulations, while maintaining sustainable design practices. Design detention basins, swales, inlets, and outfalls.
  • Prepare earthwork estimates and perform cut-and-fill analysis to optimize site grading and minimize excavation and hauling costs. Ensure that grading plans align with the overall site layout and design.
  • Conduct site assessments, review surveys, and analyze topographic maps to understand site conditions. Identify potential issues related to drainage, soil conditions, or topography that may affect design decisions.
  • Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, CAD team, architects, and environmental consultants to ensure that grading and site design integrates with other project disciplines (e.g., utilities, roadways, and foundations).
  • Ensure that all grading designs comply with local zoning codes, building codes, stormwater regulations, and environmental guidelines. Assist in obtaining necessary permits for site development and coordinate with local authorities as needed.
  • Provide support during the construction phase by reviewing contractor submittals, attending site meetings, and ensuring grading work is performed according to design specifications. Help resolve any field issues related to grading and drainage.
  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and assist with reviewing their work to ensure quality and compliance with project standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
3-5 years of experience in site civil engineering with a focus on grading design. Experience with both residential and commercial site development projects is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Experience with geotechnical site analysis or environmental consulting is a plus.
Strong proficiency in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with hydrology and drainage design software (e.g., HEC-HMS, HydroCAD, StormCAD) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of grading, earthwork calculations, and stormwater management principles.
  • Familiarity with soil mechanics, site drainage, and erosion control practices.
  • Experience working with land development codes, environmental regulations, and stormwater management guidelines.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently under deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to liaise with clients, contractors, and other project stakeholders.

Compensation Package:

  • Pay Range: 80,000 - 110,000 (DOE)
  • Benefits: McMillen provides a full Benefits Program comprising medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA, EAP, 401(k) and match, 9 paid holidays, generous PTO, opportunity for stock ownership, and wellness reimbursement.
