Job Description Summary |
The
Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for assisting in the planning, development, and implementation of prevention, care, and rehabilitation programs for athletic injuries.
This position will serve as the primary athletics trainer for a designated group of sports, as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer. |
Essential Functions |
Athletic Training Support:
- Assisting the Head Athletic Trainer in providing student-athletes with pre-participation screenings, initial injury and illness evaluations, referrals, follow-up evaluations, wound care, and injury treatment.
- Delivering emergency cardiac care using an AED, along with other necessary emergency care.
- Supporting injury and post-surgery rehabilitation, taping, and bracing.
Practice and Game Coverage:
- Day-to-day coverage of practices and games, both home and away, for specified intercollegiate teams-varsity and junior varsity. This includes pre-practice/game preparation, coverage during practices/games, and post-practice/game treatments and follow-up.
- Overseeing travel arrangements and supervising student staff during practices and games.
Facility and Rehabilitation Oversight:
- Day-to-day coverage of the athletic training room for rehabilitation and evaluation of injuries.
- Maintaining accurate, complete, and timely documentation of medical records and injury reports, including daily updates on injury treatments and rehabilitation flow sheets for each student-athlete.
Administrative Duties:
- Performing additional administrative duties as assigned.
- Serving as the primary athletics trainer for a designated group of sports as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.
- Office work to include maintenance and updating of medical records, documentation of injuries, treatments, and rehabilitation flow sheets for each student-athlete.
Other Duties:
- Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer.

Required Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Bachelor's degree
NATABOC certification NYS Licensure or eligibility CPR, First Aid, AED for Professional Rescuer certification- At least 1-3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics, collision sports, or related fields

Preferred Education, Experience, Technology Applications and Skills |
- Master's degree
- American Red Cross First Aid, CPR, and AED Instructor certification

- Student worker staff members

Physical Requirements |
- Must be able to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods; assist with lifting and carrying injured athletes as needed; demonstrate a variety of rehabilitation exercises; and work in a typical office environment using a computer, phone, and other office equipment. Must also be able to perform CPR if required.
