The School of Arts and Sciences (
SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts.

Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Analyst for the School of Arts and Sciences - Dean's Office. Reporting to the Associate Director, Decision Support and Business Intelligence, the Data Analyst is responsible for providing analytical support to the
SAS Dean's Office and
SAS units.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Works closely with the leadership team on data analysis (including confidential data analysis) providing overall direction and management for the gathering, compiling, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting of data.
- Designs data modeling/analysis services to mine various systems and applications, builds, deploys and maintains data support tools, metadata inventories and definitions for database file/table creation.
- Adapts quickly to comprehend the unique business and operational constraints and needs and resolve those challenges, employing data analysis expertise to create solutions through the application of appropriate analytical techniques and methods.
- Develops lasting technical solutions that leverage prevailing analytical tools, including Tableau and Excel with a focus on effective integration and sustainability.
- Produces data visualizations that provide insight into data set structure and meaning.
- Works with subject matter experts (SMEs) and the Associate Director of Decision Support, to identify important information in raw data and develop solutions that extract this information from a variety of data formats, including SQL tables and structured metadata.
- Develops and implements statistical, machine learning, and heuristic techniques to create descriptive and predictive analytics.
- Work is performed under minimal supervision using wide degree of creativity and discretion.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree required in Math, Engineering, Business Administration, Computer Science or related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in information services.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Demonstrated experience utilizing a variety of data visualization tools and methods to create graphs, charts, timelines, maps, dashboards, infographics, etc.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills working in a service-oriented environment.
- Effective written and oral communication is a must.
- Established organizational and problem solving skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel, Visio and Project.
- Ability to work independently or in teams.
- Must work under minimal supervision using a wide degree of creativity and discretion.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Information Services experience from a Higher Education environment.
- Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau, D3.js, ggplot2 or Gephi.
- Experience with statistical packages such as STATA, SPSS or SAS, or experience with geospatial analysis software.
- Experience working with a programming language such as Python or R.

Physical Demands and Work Environment |
- Ability to travel to all RU-NB campuses.
- Many buildings have stairs.
- Valid Driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
- Visual acuity to perform activities such as: viewing a computer terminal, reading, analyzing written information/data, etc.
