USA Institutes nationwide. Each institute is focused on growing a sector of advanced manufacturing, thus making the U.S. better poised to compete economically on a global scale. PowerAmerica is entirely funded by a combination of membership dues, sponsored awards, and other revenue-generating events and activities.
Our mission is to save energy and create U.S. manufacturing jobs by accelerating the development and large-scale adoption of wide bandgap semiconductor chips, made with silicon carbide and gallium nitride, and insert them in power electronics circuits. |
Essential Job Duties |
The Departmental Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Institute, including budgeting, invoicing, contract support, and procurement. This role ensures accurate and efficient management of financial processes and collaborates with the Director of Research Administration to maintain the Institute's financial health.
Financial Management & Reporting
- Develop, manage, and monitor budgets for all Institute projects in collaboration with the Director of Research Administration.
- Provide regular financial reports and updates to the Institute Director and leadership, including monthly and quarterly tracking.
- Track financial activities across the Institute and address concerns or inquiries as needed.
Invoicing, Contracts & Compliance
- Review and process invoices from external subcontractors for allowability and accuracy, ensuring payments are processed within North Carolina State University systems.
- Assist Contracts and Grants in generating invoices for current awards.
- Manage invoicing for Institute membership dues.
- Coordinate with Contracts & Grants fiscal managers to ensure compliance with financial protocols.
Procurement & Reconciliation
- Order supplies for Institute project PIs and manage the P-card, including monthly reconciliation and reporting of expenses.
- Perform monthly reconciliation of all active projects to ensure compliance
Award & Project Coordination
- Oversee the setup and closeout of new and existing awards, ensuring proper financial documentation and tracking.
- Maintain an understanding of all accounts within the Institute's portfolio and assist with award tracking and closure.
- Track cost share requirements and maintain documentation as necessary by working closely with 3rd party cost share providers.
Grant Proposal Support
- Assist with the creation of budgets and financial documentation for new grant proposals.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, or related business area; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Experience in financial management, budgeting, and invoicing in a research or academic environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in contract management.
- Familiarity with membership management systems and agreements.
- Knowledge of NCSU financial systems and policies.
