Lead Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator - Seasonal

Hourly Range: $17.98 - $20.19 /hr

Summary -

The Volunteer & Outreach Program seasonal lead plays a crucial role in managing more than 400 volunteers essential to all facets of nature center operations. This position reports to the Director of the center and works with staff to recruit, train, and report on volunteer contributions. They develop ways to share opportunities through a variety of communication means (quarterly newsletter, social media, emails, in-person). In addition, this position leverages the needs of the center by scheduling school programs that take place off-center (in-school, libraries, and in Milwaukee County Parks) to help the center fulfill its mission to serve the greater Milwaukee community through hands-on environmental education.

Responsibilities -



  • Volunteer Engagement & Management - Identify needs of Wehr Nature Center and its outreach program that provide opportunities for volunteer involvement. Recruit, train and schedule based on needed assignments. Evaluate recognize and report annually on progress.


  • Collaboration - Build Relationships with existing and forge new opportunities to connect with corporate groups to leverage volunteer support. Work with engagement team to connect volunteers. Serve as liaison with youth and young adult clubs, service groups. Partner in meaningful way to increase volunteer capacity.


  • Educational Outreach - Assist the school program coordinator and naturalists team with school communication at the time of program booking. Work with staff to assign leads and serve as a member of the education team to stay aware of training, curricular and program changes.


  • Nature Center Support - Fill in for visitors' center team with administrative duties as needed.



Minimum Requirements -



  • Current resident of Wisconsin.
  • High School Diploma
  • At least One (1) year of experience in education, nonprofit, volunteer management.
  • At least Six (6) months of lead experience in Management of staff and/or volunteers and/or interns.
  • Ability to lift/carry/pull/push 20 lbs.



NOTE: This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
