Job Summary: The Sterile Processing Technician I ensures the highest quality standards are met by departmental procedures and established industry standards. Assumes responsibility and accountability for incorporating the vision, values, mission, and critical goals of the organization into their job performance. Sterile Processing Technician I inspects and de-lints towels and other linens; prepares and wraps items for sterilization; inventory and stocks sterilized items in department and in nursing units in hospital. Must be able to perform all duties in accordance with the NWH Policies and Procedures. International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) and/or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD) standards and procedures should be understood and followed. Essential Functions: - Wrap linen and other items according to department procedure. - Inventory items prepared for Operating Room, wrap replacements for sterilization, restock shelves with sterilized items. - Inventory and replace instruments in SPD, OR, Emergency Department, I.C.U. and other nursing units. - Answer phone calls in the department when needed. - Assess supplies for adequate levels required for processing and request necessary replacements in a timely manner. - Collection of soiled and clean instruments. - Utilize instrument scanning system in all areas for inventory control. - Inspect and assemble basic instrument kits. - Pick supplies for surgical cases utilizing surgeon specific preference cards. - Utilize a variety of computer systems. - Assist in the training of new staff and volunteers. - Re stock code carts and intubation boxes. - May be required to rotate between the main SPD, GI and OSC Departments as needed - Other duties as necessary.-Resets instrument sets without error.
-Resets instrument sets without error. -Decontaminates instruments and equipment according to procedure. -Maintain Central Sterile Department stock levels. -Prepares and assembles surgical tray and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing. -Communicates instrument repair needs to supervisor. Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent education required. Effective written and verbal communications skills required. Experience: One year Sterile Processing/Central Processing experience preferred. License/ Registration: N/A Knowledge and Skills: - Demonstrates the proper preparation of linens and instruments for sterilization - Demonstrates knowledge of principles and recommended practice of steam sterilization and associated record-keeping. - Demonstrates understanding of the distribution systems utilized by the department. - Demonstrates the procedures for providing cases to the Operating Room. - Practices the proper utilization of the computer systems. - Participates in department quality improvement/performance improvement processes.
