Advanced Practice Provider (PA/NP) - Outpatient Bone Health

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Division of Bone Health is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide primary or specialty medical care within defined scope of practice under the supervision of a licensed physician and in accordance with MCW/FMLH/CHW policies and procedures. This position is located at our West Bend and OSSC locations.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) works as part of a multidisciplinary health care team, providing a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for the patients of the outpatient services as a member of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.

The APP will have a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and ensure an environment of safe quality care.

The Bone Health APP is a specialized provider who focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and management of bone health conditions, particularly osteoporosis, by providing direct patient care, educating patients, on bone health risks and preventative measures, and collaborating with other healthcare team members to optimize bone health outcomes for their patients.

In this role you will be responsible for the following:

• Collaborates with interdisciplinary health care teams in diagnosis and treatment of conditions requiring Orthopaedic intervention in outpatient environment as a member of the Bone Health Clinic.
• Writes accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders.
• Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information.
• Privileged to perform procedures beyond core as identified by the INSERT DIVISION services.
• Facilitates and communicates with patient, family and staff to promote continuity of care across the continuum of care.
• Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Join Commission.
• Evaluates quality outcomes for the patients receiving care of this team through participation in the development of quality indicators and outcomes dashboard.
• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.
• Obtains 10 hours of Bone Health-related CME per year.

Core Advanced Practice Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifies normal and abnormal findings, including physical, cognitive, and psychosocial status.
• Order, perform, and interpret screening and diagnostic procedures and tests, and appropriately communicates and documents information
• Write accurate and timely progress notes, procedure notes, and/or admission and transfer orders
• Develop pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical treatment plans.
• Monitor effectiveness of plan of care
• Educate patients on disease and treatment plans.
• Perform procedures as trained and appropriately credentialed.
• Document within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and completes other necessary documents.
• Collaborate and/or consults with physicians and other health care providers as appropriate.
• Educates, counsels, and assists patients and families regarding current health problems, health maintenance activities and preventive behaviors.
• Attend required training and meets key regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and the Joint Commission.
• Acquires information on the most current development and trends in the Physician Assistant field and/or Nurse Practitioner field, through educational programs, in-services, professional associates, and current literature.

Work Schedule: Scheduling flexibility required to provide for an appropriate level of patient care coverage. May require evening or weekend hours in the future based on business needs. typically Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts. No weekends/nights/call.

Position Requirements:

Preferred Experience: Prior experience in Orthopaedics or Endocrinology

Minimum Education:

Advanced Practice Nurse: Master's Degree or higher in Nursing
Physician Assistant: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Physician Assistant Studies

Minimum Requirements: *or eligible

• Wisconsin RN License
• Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber License
• Certification as Advance Practice Nurse
• Certification as Family Practice NP and/or Adult Care NP preferred.
• Will consider certification as Acute Care NP and/or Geriatric NP.
• AHA BCLS
• CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire.
• Certification as a Clinical Densitometrist (CCD) within 3 years of hire.
• Bone Health/Fracture Liaison certification within on year of hire.

Physician Assistant

• Wisconsin Physician Assistant License
• Certification by NCCPA
• AHA BCLS
• CITI Certification to be completed within 90 days of hire.
