Section Chief Medical Hematology/Oncology - William N. Pennington Cancer Institute in Beautiful Reno/Lake Tahoe

The William N. Pennington Cancer Institute (PCI) at Renown Health is seeking a dynamic and experienced Section Chief, Medical Hematology/Oncology to lead and expand our Medical Hematology/Oncology services. This is an exciting opportunity to take a pivotal role in the development and growth of a premier cancer center, as we work towards becoming the first NCI-designated Cancer Center in Nevada.

As the Section Chief, you will have direct oversight of Renown Health's Medical Hematology/Oncology Services, playing an instrumental role in shaping patient care and advancing clinical research. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of oncologists, advanced practice providers, and other key stakeholders, both within Renown Health and across the community. This leadership position will also provide opportunities to mentor and guide medical staff, foster innovation, and collaborate with the University of Nevada Reno, School of Medicine, with whom we have a formal affiliation.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Lead and manage the Medical Hematology/Oncology section, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, safety, and satisfaction.
  • Oversee clinical integration and quality improvement initiatives, ensuring adherence to evidence-based clinical practices and best practices in cancer care.
  • Drive oncology research and clinical trials to position Renown Health's PCI as a regional leader in academic cancer care.
  • Oversee the Section's teaching and education efforts, especially, but not exclusively, for residents in internal medicine and medical students.
  • Collaborate with PCI's VP and other Renown health leaders to develop strategic plans, manage operations, and ensure continuous growth and innovation.


  • Educate and support providers on key initiatives related to Medical Hematology
  • Foster a patient-centered approach to cancer care that spans prevention, screening, treatment, wellness, palliative care, and end-of-life care.


  • Actively participate in physician recruitment, performance management, and the development of clinical outcomes


Position Highlights:



  • Lead a multidisciplinary cancer care team including oncologists, advanced practice providers, and support staff, all working collaboratively to provide comprehensive cancer care as we34ll as comprehensive benign hematology care.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Education: Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school. An advanced business degree is desirable.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of post-fellowship clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting or integrated health network, with strong preference given to those with demonstrable prior medical leadership experience.
