Position Summary

The Partner Integration and Transition Manager (the "Manager") is responsible for coordinating and managing aspects of the integration of each lateral partner into the partnership of the Firm. The Manager works with a broad range of partners and business services to facilitate the transfer of matters and client relationships to White & Case, as well as to introduce the lateral to pre-existing White & Case client relationships. The Manager will ensure an effective and efficient transition into the partnership of the lateral, and the full realization of the anticipated business case. The role will report to the Director of Lateral Partner Integration (the "DLPI").

Duties and Accountabilities1

Laterals



  • Act as a concierge to ensure each lateral integrates into the Firm culture, and represents a safe harbor for the lateral to discuss their business case or how to navigate any unfamiliar dynamics at the Firm
  • Produce and analyze reports for the DLPI, reporting on progress with the Laterals and where there are causes for concern. Identify and discuss options for intervention
  • Facilitate, closely monitor and regular reporting on progress towards full integration into all key aspects of partnership: billings and client development, internal networking and proliferation of work, associate staffing/supervision, leadership service/roles, and cultural integration
  • Coach the laterals in identifying ways that they can navigate the Firm, for example working with other Partners that can be mutually accretive to their business
  • Project manage the post arrival process and facilitate reviews
  • Monitor the business/following indicated in the LPQ and business case as it transitions and develops to ensure successful realization of the hiring objectives
  • Assist in codifying a clear set of parameters for the lateral that defines their business case and what defines individual success for them
  • Work to ensure the clear expectations of the Business Case, commitment and investment of key stakeholders such as Sponsoring Partners, Integration Partners and all other associated parties
  • Work with relevant senior stakeholders to ensure a clear timetable of review milestones and opportunities for the lateral to course-correct before a particular path is irreversibly set
  • Facilitate and contribute to regular catch-up meetings with the lateral partner, the Sponsoring Partners and the Integration Partner
  • Arrange a 3-month progress meeting with key stakeholders
  • Facilitate a review meeting at 9 and 18 months to assess the lateral's progress against their business case
  • Provide a single point of contact to maintain oversight of the full workflow:

    • Ensure the business case clearly sets out the roles of those Firm individuals and functions required to make the business case successful
    • Ensure each part of the organization is fulfilling its own cascade of actions and responsibilities to move the candidate from lateral to successful incumbent




Career Transition



  • Responsible for automating and streamlining key processes and implementing improvements for the Career Transition Program
  • Support the DLPI for all succession planning activities that fall within the Career Transition Program. This will include:

    • Identify all partners that will participate in the age 57 succession planning meetings on an annual basis
    • Liaising with Regional Section Heads ("RSHs") and other resources within the Firm on the progress of PDT plans for partners
    • Coordinate the preparations and communications with partners having succession planning meetings throughout the year
    • Ensure that age 57 meetings are held with all partners including collaborating with EC members on scheduling of meetings
    • Cultivates and fosters strong relationships with leaders, partners, lawyers, and other functions to provide transition support and succession planning for Partners



Qualifications


  • At least seven (7) years working in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Leadership skills and management experience are required
  • Prior BD experience would be ideal
  • Excellent understanding of concepts relating to finance and human resource information systems, compensation and reports generation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Communicates with credibility and confidence and can effectively interact at all levels of the organization and explain complex matters in simple and understandable terms and is extremely responsive
  • Must have great attention to detail and possess strong organizational skills
  • Creative individual who can "think on their feet"
  • Questions the status quo and develops creative and efficient changes to current work-flow while constantly examining administrative effectiveness and seeking better procedures
  • Team player, contributing to the success of the global team with strong relationship building skills
  • Works well under pressure and deadlines and achieves results with accuracy and precision
  • Innovative, and proactive; can openly implement suggestions or improvements in current processes and can generate ideas for improvement and articulate ideas clearly
  • Ability to maintain the strictest of confidences. Employee will be exposed to highly confidential information relating to the partners and must maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to learn and understand the details and complications of partner benefits and pension plans, partner compensation, capital and taxes (including foreign taxes)
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Willing to work during non-business hours including nights and weekends travel when needed

Location and Reporting


  • This role can be based in our New York or London office.
  • This role reports to the Director, Lateral Partner Integration.
