JOB TITLE: NERC Compliance Analyst - Substation REQUISITION: TRA00XJ DEPARTMENT: Substation C&M Technical Support LOCATION: Open to all Evergy locations PAY RANGE: NERC Compliance Analyst I: $52,700 - $65,900 NERC Compliance Analyst II: $64,500 - $80,600 Sr NERC Compliance Analyst: $81,800 - $109,100 Lead NERC Compliance Analyst: $96,300 - $128,400 Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required). Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: This position supports Evergy's strategic initiatives through development, oversight, and continuous improvement of NERC compliance practices. This includes remaining up to date on current operational projects, and their impacted compliance initiatives by working closely with vendors, engineers, operators, technicians, management, information technology resources, and internal stakeholder groups. This position works closely with the Substation and Relay Operation groups to coordinate and evaluate maintenance and testing results through the life cycle of transmission, substation, and generation protection and control systems affecting the Bulk Electric System (BES). Furthermore, this position will provide backup support for T&D NERC CIP compliance in accordance with Evergy's NERC CIP cyber policies and procedures. * Provides and promotes an effective culture of reliability compliance and other regulatory requirements. * Develops work procedures and training plans related to NERC compliance. Assists operational personnel with communication and execution of training. * Effective coordination and evidence collection of NERC compliance requirements performed by Evergy Substation and Relay department. * Development, maintenance, and continuous improvements of NERC compliance business practices and documentation. * Track and perform evaluations/investigations of Sequence of Events Recording (SERs), Fault Recordings (FRs), Digital Fault Recordings (DFRs), Dynamic Disturbance Recording (DDRs). * Builds and manages corrective action plans to track and mitigate unresolved maintenance issues. * Utilizes computerized tools (Powerbase, Maximo, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.) to manage work. * Coordinate with FERC/NERC Compliance team in preparing evidence for internal and external NERC audits and other ad hoc compliance initiatives conducted throughout the year. * Interface with internal and external audit staff to ensure appropriate and accurate responses to NERC compliance queries are satisfied in a timely fashion. * Other duties as assigned. This individual is expected to perform as a backup for other departmental functions.
Education and Experience Requirements: A bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, or a four-year Relay Technician apprenticeship is required. Experience working with system protection and control systems associated with Generation, Transmission and Distribution assets is required. The ideal candidate will also possess prior experience managing projects and/or processes. Basic understanding of NERC and related regulatory standards is preferred but not required. Experience with Maximo and Powerbase are preferred but not required. This is a highly technical position dealing with all types of power system control and protective relay schemes. The successful candidate must possess skills in the following areas: * Industrial controls * Protection systems * Station batteries * Power systems * Computer/digital instrumentation * Local area networks and telecommunications * Advanced math * Interpersonal communications Prefer candidates in a NERC Compliance Analyst I/II role to possess degree requirements and 1- 2 years of field experience with Generation, Transmission and Distribution assets. Prefer candidates in a Sr/Lead NERC Compliance Analyst role will possess degree requirements and 2+ years field experience. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: * Solid understanding of the electric system from the point of generation to the point of customer use. * Solid understanding of System Protection and Control System schemes. Including in-depth knowledge concerning the repair, construction, and maintenance of system protection and control systems. * Understanding of symmetrical components with an ability to perform complex mathematical computations. * Detailed knowledge of safe work practices. * Working level knowledge of PowerBase, Maximo, Microsoft Office Products and various vendor related products preferred. * Self-starter, detail-oriented, and innovative thinker able to work with little supervision. * Strong interpersonal and team building skills; ability to work with a diverse team and help influence/drive change across functional and business boundaries. Escalates issues or roadblocks in a timely manner with supervisor/management. * Ability to read, interpret, and apply governmental regulations and technical information from reports/manuals. * Ability to write reports and business procedures. * Ability to research and apply research to emerging issues, existing issues as well as energy-related business impacting opportunities. * Excellent organizational and time management skills. * Effectively communicate both written and oral with internal and external stakeholders in a technical and non-technical fashion. * Must be available for after-hours on call duties. * Ability to independently prioritize tasks based on criticality and meet deadlines. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Working Conditions: Office and Field working conditions. Much of the time will be spent in an office environment, but time will be spent in maintenance shops or at substations performing site visits/spot checks. Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance.
