Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

The Education department is seeking a full-time Operations Manager for Children, Family and Youth Programs to work with two departments: Children and Family Learning ( CFL) and Youth Initiatives (YI). The CFL group focuses on children ages 2-10 and their caregivers. The YI group focuses on youth ages 11 to college and beyond. In both groups, there are yearlong and multi-year experience and vacation camps.

The Operations Manager is responsible for leading several aspects of administration for CFL and YI and working collaboratively with administration teams across the Museum to advance our projects. Key duties in support of program leaders and educators include managing program participant paperwork, supporting purchases, federal paperwork, room bookings, logistics for large events/external activities in communities and overall office support.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage the room booking process.
  • Ensure federal grant compliance (i.e., effort certifications, contracting, invoicing from consultants and sub-awardees, coordinating stipends for project participants).
  • Serve as liaison with Education and HR colleagues for all open positions to be approved, posted and advertised.
  • Co-lead with program managers the admissions and enrollment process for all children and youth participants, managing tuition tracking and processing tuition aid paperwork.
  • Serve as liaison to the Communications department and manage website updates for YI and CFL, shepherding the production of digital and print fliers and brochures.
  • Support the directors of CFL/YI with monitoring and tracking spending and revenue earned.
  • Support logistics for large-scale events onsite and external community-related activities.
  • Support the administrative team with payroll biweekly and processing stipends for interns, honoraria for guest speakers, etc.
  • Serve as key liaison for office support, facility requests, etc. Support by understanding and following Museum procedures.


The expected salary range for the Operations Manager for Children, Family and Youth Programs is $65,000/annual - $70,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in administration or another related field.
  • Three years experience in an administrative role supporting a lively, cross-functional work environment by effectively managing time and balancing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral/written). Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Fluency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Google Workspace.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in the cultural sector, nonprofits or out-of-school learning environments.
  • Familiarity with CRM and project management software.
  • Spanish fluency.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
