About the Role
As a member of this functional engineering team, the Mechanical Engineer Intern will be assigned to one of these areas to assist the engineering staff with execution of the departments charter. Assignments will be designed to provide the Intern with a specific scope of work and a discrete deliverable that the intern can achieve in the prescribed duration of their employment as well as possible peripheral assignments in other sections to provide the Intern as broad an experience as possible. Responsibilities to Anticipate for this Role * Operating within cross-functional teams supporting program deliverables related to technical requirements, cost and schedule * Supporting engineering staff in the development of detail hardware concepts using CAD modeling tools and ensuring developed concepts meet all technical requirements * Collaborating with engineering peers within the project team to ensure developed concepts support a balanced system level approach that achieves the necessary performance requirements * Collaborating with drafting personnel in maturing design concepts to a production-ready state * Supporting engineering staff in the release of hardware models and prints * Providing support to the manufacturing organization in the fabrication and integration of developed hardware onto prototype and/or production platforms * Providing support, as required, for testing and verification of developed hardware * Providing support for Root Cause and Corrective Action analysis to resolve identified technical issues with prototype and/or production hardware * Assisting the engineering staff in the maintenance of laboratory facilities and equipment Qualifications Sought * Pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year university or college in Mechanical or Materials Science Engineering * Attained at least a sophomore status based on university/college's class standing requirements at the start of the internship. * Preferred - GPA of 3.0 or higher * Must be at least 18 years old * Must be a U.S. Person (i.e., a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.) * Must successfully pass standard pre-employment screens and must provide an official college or university transcript from their school before their first day of employment. * Must be able to complete a minimum of a full-time, 3-month assignment. * Must be able to work on-site a minimum of 3 days per week * Must be able to travel as required * Must be able to work up to 10% overtime as required Additional Information / Desired Experience * Experience with CAD modeling techniques is desired, including, but not limited to the following CAD software packages; VIS, Siemens NX and/or Creo * Familiar with MS Office applications * Possess good communication skills GDLS considers factors such as, scope/responsibilities of the position, candidate experience, education/training background, in addition to local market comparable and business considerations when extending an offer. |
