The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly qualified researcher who will be responsible for perform histology, imaging and primary tissue culture as part of a project to examine synapses in human cortical interneurons. The candidate will be proficient in immunohistochemistry, sectioning, confocal imaging and basic tissue culture. They will be working in concert with a postdoc and a staff associate as a team and will be supervised by the postdoc.

Job Function:



  • Cryostat sectioning of tissue


  • Immunohistochemistry tissue sections and primary cultures


  • Confocal imaging of immunolabeled samples


  • Coordinating with collaborator's lab for co-culture with human induced cortical interneurons


  • Basic data analysis in consultation with postdoc



Lab Mission/Purpose:

Minimum Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, biomedical science, or comparable scientific field and 4 years of laboratory research experience preferred.

Minimum Skills Required:




  • Experience working in research lab as technician



  • Tissue processing and immunohistochemistry



  • Fluency in standard computer software: MS Office, Photoshop



  • Experience working in a team environment on a focused project



  • Confocal imaging experience





Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with image analysis


  • Prior experience working with mice
