Description

The Lab Technician supports the Lab Team at A to Z Wineworks through sample collection, sample analysis, data entry, and reporting. Additional duties in the position include bottling quality control measurements. The Lab Technician typically works four 10 hours shifts each week. During the annual harvest season (estimated September through October), the working hours change to six days per week and include extended shifts and possibly weekend and night coverage. This is a full time position that requires on-site work at the winery located in Newberg, Oregon.

Job Responsibilities Include:



  • Collect samples from a variety of sources, such as tanks, barrels, and concrete eggs.
  • Prepare samples for degassing, centrifuging, and labeling.
  • Grape Juice and wine analysis and grape sample processing.
  • Perform laboratory calibration, standardization, and analysis including activities such as Brix & Temperature (DMA), Phenolic & Color Analysis (CIELab and Spectrophotometer), and dissolved gas measurements (Cbox).
  • Record data into both physical and digital libraries.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly lab while adhering to all SOPs.


Experience & Physical Requirements:



  • 1 - 2 years of experience working in a wine laboratory setting.
  • Experience with one full harvest season is preferred and large scale production experience a plus.
  • Degree or certificate in Enology, Viticulture or related field of study is preferred. Other scientific or STEM degrees will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.) is required. Experience with Vintrace or a similar platform is a plus.
  • Able to balance on ladders, stairs, and on high catwalks while carrying supplies and equipment.
  • Work conditions include exposure to varying temperatures, weather elements, water or other liquids, and noise.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl on a repetitive basis and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Can repeatedly lift, bend, rotate and carry 50lbs.
  • Some work is performed in confined space conditions.
