MFC Advanced Reactor Modeling Internship Summer 2025

Reporting to the Senior Manager for the Nuclear Safety Analysis Department, you will develop computational models of advanced micro-reactor cores for verification and validation of designs. You would support formal report preparation and on-going reactor deployment.

This team works a 9x80 schedule, and works onsite at our Idaho Falls campus. Start date and duration of internship vary based on project and student availability. You may be eligible for course credit for this internship if approved by your university.

• Graduate student enrolled full time at an accredited college/university studying Nuclear or Mechanical Engineering
• A minimum overall 3.0 GPA
• Completion of classes in neutronics, reactor physics, finite element modeling, Monte-Carlo modeling, or thermal-hydraulic modeling
• Experience in programming in Python and analysis with a neutronics analysis codes (such as MCNP, OpenMC, SCALE, Serpent, Griffin, etc...) or thermal-hydraulics/mechanicals code (such as Ansys, ABAQUS, STAR-CCM+, Bison, or Moose)
• Authorization to work in the U.S. (including CPT and OPT)

Compensation and Benefits:

• Undergraduate Internships ($25.65/hour - $30.70/hour)
• Masters Internships and PhD Internships Pre-Candidacy ($31.75/hour - $34.06/hour)
• PhD Internships Post-Candidacy ($33.75/hour - $36.06/hour)
• Eligible interns are provided paid holiday time off, and many of our internships offer travel reimbursements.
• Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on degree field and level of education.
