The Billing Leader is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the billing process for the firm, ensuring accurate and timely invoicing using Workday. This role will also focus on leading and mentoring a team of billing professionals, collaborating with finance leaders and line of business/Service Line/Capability/Operational leaders to identify, recommend, develop, and implement changes that benefit the firm's bottom line, and will drive efforts to increase efficiency and optimization of this critical revenue generating finance function. The Billing Leader must be an advocate of change management, effectively communicating and implementing change and managing it proactively to minimize disruption to the business and revenue cycle operations. This position leads a team of finance billing team members across the United States, Canada, El Salvador and India, and will work closely with senior leadership and key stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals and financial objectives.

Essential Duties

Billing Management:

  • Lead the Firm's client billing in achieving billing goals, while collaborating and interfacing with the Firm's Owners, line of business/ Service Line /Capability/ Operational leaders, and other members of the finance leadership team providing proactive advice and guidance on billing matters, potential issues and risks and other key data and analysis.
  • Oversee the entire billing process to ensure billing terms and conditions are adhered to and captured correctly in the billing system, while ensuring compliance with internal policies and external client agreements.
  • Design, implement, and maintain controls and methodologies to ensure accurate and prompt processing of client invoices, with the highest realization of fees; oversee the Firm's work-in-progress and associated technology/software.
  • Work closely with LOB operations, finance systems team, and other internal organizations to resolve billing discrepancies and issues.
  • Monitor and report on key metrics related to billings, including write-offs, adjustments and revenue recognition.

Process Improvement:

  • Continuously evaluate and improve billing processes to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and client satisfaction.
  • Work with the larger finance team, IT and vendors to identify and implement system improvements within Workday and other automation opportunities.

Team Leadership:

  • Provides effective leadership to employees and/or teams through: planning appropriate staffing levels; interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training; communicating performance expectations and providing feedback on performance, recognition, coaching, employee counseling reports and/or discipline including separation; creating career growth opportunities and employee development plans.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the Firm's finance billing team, champion and ensure a highly team-oriented, client service-focused approach and culture, with the utmost commitment to professional excellence.
  • Foster a collaborative and results-driven team environment.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Reporting & Analysis:

  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership on billing status.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of billing data to identify patterns and recommend actionable improvements.
  • Present findings and recommendations to leadership and key stakeholders

Complete special projects as requested.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Undergraduate degree - Required
    • Acct/Finance - Preferred
  • CPA, MBA and/or other advanced degrees - Preferred

TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office - Required
  • Ability to learn, implement and train others on BI Tools - Required
  • Ability to work in a large, complex, dynamic organization where a high degree of ambiguity and change exists - Required
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of employees including senior leadership - Required
  • Strong problem solving and analysis skills - Required
  • Strong organization, prioritization and time management skills - Required
  • Workday PSA experience - Required

EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Finance Operations or comparable experience - Required
  • Professional services industry experience - Required
  • Extensive background driving continuous improvement, innovation, and optimization - Required
  • Strong knowledge of billing systems and strategies - Required
  • Proven track record in managing and driving improvements in billing processes - Required

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills; the ability to communicate effectively with partners and other key firm stakeholders, to lead through influence rather than control, and to create consensus-based support for business strategies and decisions - Required

  • 10+ years' experience managing staff - Required
  • Experience working with offshore centers - Preferred

At RSM, an employee's pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.

Compensation Range: $179,500 - $318,500
