Quality Engineer

As required by our governmental client, this position requires being a US Citizen.

The Quality Engineer holds the primary responsibility of supporting multiple prototyping, test and manufacturing engineering efforts, including process development, installation, maintenance, and continuous enhancement of an array of products, all aimed at achieving key performance indicators (KPIs). Responsibility includes leading and performing internal technical audits as required by quality system and some customer systems; audits suppliers when required; and supports outside auditors when on location; supports the maintenance of the quality management system; tracks vendor history; performs failure analysis.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Quality Engineer: $90,000 - $110,000
  • Pay commensurate with experience.

Quality Engineer Responsibilities Include:



  • Leads and performs all internal audits.
  • Audits suppliers and supports outside auditors.
  • Works with Quality Manager to support the maintenance of quality management system, recommending system improvements and updates to better meet customer requirements.
  • Analyzes and disposes of deficient materials.
  • Maintains corrective action requests (external and internal) and statistical process control systems.
  • Performs internal failure analysis and for customers upon request.
  • Prepares and reviews failure analysis reports, material rejection notices, etc. and makes recommendations for disposition.
  • Tracks vendor history program and plan.
  • Completes and maintains various paperwork required for job assignments.
  • Support all safety rules, procedures, and standards.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.



Quality Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • A bachelor's degree in engineering with courses in quality assurance practices and procedures. QA engineers who will be working in the area of welding process and weld procedure development should have a bachelor's in materials or mechanical engineering. Ten years work experience specific to Navy shipboard mechanical systems, metallurgical principles, and metal joining technology, especially welding, may be substituted for the education requirement.
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in a quality program like ISO 9000, MIL-Q-9858, or MIL-I-45208 (alternate QA programs are acceptable).
  • A minimum of five years of experience in reading engineering drawings and familiarity with NAVAIR drawing formats, MPRs, and MIL specs. Experience in the measurement and inspection of mechanical components similar to those used in Aircraft Launch and Recovery Systems is preferred. QA engineers working in the welding science area shall have a minimum of five years of experience in the preparation of welding procedures and the selection of welding methods. Equivalent experience in metallurgical sciences may be substituted for this requirement. Knowledge of, and experience with, NAVSEA welding procedures and specifications is preferred, but not required. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, drawings, design and development, and technical descriptions.
  • Ability to effectively lead and direct others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts, manufacturing, production standards and efficiency optimization tools; process oriented.
  • Knowledge of various software applications: database, design, inventory, and Microsoft Suite.
  • Ability to properly manage and prioritize resources, people, and projects.
  • Ability to work in high production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines, have a defined sense of urgency as required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; telephone skills; patience.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
