Senior Information Assurance Software Engineer

***As required by our governmental client, this position requires an active Top Secret clearance or the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance within 120 days after contract award. ***

This position focuses on developing and maintaining software solutions that ensure the security, confidentiality, integrity, and availability of information systems. This role combines software engineering with information security to safeguard sensitive data and protect systems against cyber threats.

Compensation & Benefits:



  • Estimated Starting Salary Range for Senior Information Assurance Software Engineer: $138,000 - $215,000
  • Pay commensurate with experience.
  • Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.


Senior Information Assurance Software Engineer Responsibilities Include:



  • Design and develop software with built-in security features to protect against vulnerabilities.
  • Implement secure coding practices to minimize risks of exploitation.
  • Conduct security-focused code reviews to identify and mitigate potential issues.
  • Assess software systems for potential vulnerabilities and threats.
  • Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
  • Implement measures to protect systems against unauthorized access, data breaches, and other cyber threats.
  • Ensure software systems comply with relevant security standards and regulations (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, FISMA, GDPR).
  • Work with compliance teams to integrate security policies into software development processes.
  • Conduct penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, and security audits on software systems.
  • Use tools like static and dynamic code analysis to detect security weaknesses.
  • Develop test cases to ensure security controls are functioning as intended.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to respond to security incidents.
  • Provide software engineering support for forensic analysis and post-incident recovery efforts.
  • Update and patch software to address discovered vulnerabilities.
  • Implement monitoring tools to detect unauthorized access, anomalies, or potential threats in real time.
  • Maintain logs and audit trails for system monitoring and compliance purposes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including developers, cybersecurity professionals, and IT administrators, to integrate security into every stage of software development.
  • Train team members on secure coding practices and emerging security threats.
  • Stay updated on the latest security threats, tools, and techniques.
  • Research and implement cutting-edge solutions to enhance software security.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.


Senior Information Assurance Software Engineer Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:



  • A Bachelor of Science or an equivalent Bachelor of Arts in computer science (computer programming) is required. A Bachelor of Science in engineering with programming courses may be substituted for the B.S. or B.A. in computer science. A high school diploma with 10 years of programming and software development experience may be substituted for the B.A. or B.S. degree.
  • Ten or more years of information technology (IT) experience in IT security and information assurance. Knowledge of security practices and protocols is required. Familiarity with Navy Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs) is preferred and will be rated higher.
  • Shall be CISSP Certified or demonstrate that they have equivalent experience, skills, and abilities. CISSP certification is preferred.
  • Performs tasks with little or no guidance. Has demonstrated knowledge in area of engineering expertise.
  • Ability to multi-task between concurrent work orders and projects on a daily basis.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, organizational and time management skill with strong attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to work with cross-functional groups, coordinated work activities at all levels, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build internal/external relationships.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software and web-based applications such as those used in manufacturing operations.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License.
  • Must possess a TOP SECRET clearance or be able to obtain a TOP SECRET Clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
