PURPOSE OF JOB

Support new product development and innovation for Owens Corning's North American Fiberglass Insulation Product Development team. The Associate Scientist - Fiberglass Insulation Product Development is a product development support role that helps drive improvements of existing products and the development of next generation products. This position will include leading portions of projects, maintaining product development and prototype testing lab spaces, working with a contractor to perform day-to-day duties, and providing general hands-on prototype fabrication and material handling support to the broader Fiberglass Insulation Product Development team. This position works closely with other internal technical teams, manufacturing, testing labs, and business partners, as well as working with external suppliers and customers.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Safer Together



  • Actively participates in monthly safety meetings
  • Ensures rigorous compliance to safety procedures and OC corporate policies
  • Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self and coworkers


Product Development and Innovation



  • Plan, design, and help fabricate test fixtures or stands to facilitate prototype testing or new test method development.
  • Prepare prototypes and technical demonstrations for customer evaluation and testing, in support of the building insulation initiatives within the Fiberglass Insulation Product Development team.
  • Support the planning and execution of prototype or product evaluation trials at Owens Corning labs or 3rd party facilities.
  • Coordinate testing, organize data, and present results to help drive projects forward.
  • Document all experiments and trials to support IP strategies and contribute to technical reports



Lab Operations



  • Assists with communicating coordinates resources within the lab space.
  • Works with a contractor to perform day-to-day lab activities.
  • Maintain lab equipment in the prototype lab space by authoring and updating safety documents and submitting facilities request for maintance, as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to increase safety within the lab space and lead the development for upgrades/installation of new safety equipment.
  • General houskeeping and material management of the area.



JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Degree in engineering or equivalent field
  • Excellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Must be proficient in using machinery and tools, such as various saws, drills, nail guns, staplers, etc.
  • Must be proficient in using a computer including MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
  • Knowledge of laboratory practices
  • Ability to repetitively lift objects up to 40 lbs and stand for a large portion of the day



PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:



  • 2-3 years experience in industrial R&D lab is preferred
  • Experience with constructing, assembling, or producing equipment for a specific purpose
  • Experience using Excel or Minitab to analyze data to make data-based decisions
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time is preferred
