Job Description

Johnson County Department of Health and Environment is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the position of a Child Care Licensing Team Leader. The position is located at 11811 S Sunset Drive, Suite 2700, Olathe, KS 66061.

Duties for this position include:

    Gathers and records information on complaints, inspections, emergency calls, and requests for investigation/evaluations; enforces applicable regulatory state and local laws, codes, and regulations; gives assistance and guidance to staff members on difficult cases, including suggestions of possible approaches.
  • Inspects, tests, and analyzes samples; designs and conducts advanced level surveys and studies in assigned specialty area(s); may coordinate the efforts of department program personnel within the program and with those of other County, State, and other partners. Performs technical analyses and evaluation of complex plans and specifications for specialty area(s).
  • Prepares technical reports and official correspondence; reviews documents and reports prepared by staff members; provides information and assistance to the public, other County agencies, and other jurisdictions; may present reports on department/agency activities at public meetings and may respond to media inquiries as directed by division director and prepare case histories as needed for unlicensed care investigations.; may testify as an expert witness at court and/or regulatory hearings; provides technical assistance and/or training and public education. Assists with class and meeting coordination as needed.
  • Serves as a lead person with responsibility for the coordination of licensure service work performed by small group of staff, trains and mentors other staff in the inspection process.


Job Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Early Childhood Education or related field, and two (2) years of related Child Care Licensing experience required.

A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record is also required.

Master's degree in Nursing, Early Childhood education or related field of study are preferred.

Within sixty (60) days of hire, employees must produce proof of immunization, proof of immunity, proof that immunization is medically contraindicated, submit a written objection to immunization based upon a sincerely held religious belief, or receive vaccination for the following: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR); Tetanus Diphtheria and Acellular Pertussis (TDAP); and Varicella (Chickenpox).

The qualified candidate will need to be detail oriented, have excellent time management skills, very good verbal and written communication skills, good observation and interview skills, and the ability to work in noisy, fast paced environments.
