JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Dr. Hamid Emami-Meybodi is looking to hire a postdoctoral scholar to develop advanced mathematical models to estimate pore-scale transport phenomena associated with CO2 mineralization and H2 production in reactive rock formations. The research will focus on sustainable CO2 mineralization and H2 production in geological formations, aiming to achieve a critical balance between geochemical kinetics and hydrodynamics in porous media.

The successful candidate will be tasked with developing a pore-scale, multicomponent reactive transport model to analyze fluid dynamics and geochemical reactions, integrating findings from microfluidic experiments to refine and validate the model. They will also propose a methodology to characterize the interplay between geochemical kinetics and hydrodynamics. Additionally, the candidate will supervise and work closely with graduate students and foster collaborations within Penn State and with external academic institutions.

Candidates with strong quantitative skills in programming (MATLAB, C, C++, or Python), multicomponent fluid transport modeling, reactive transport modeling in porous media, and laboratory experience in flow through porous media are highly sought after. A PhD in petroleum engineering, geosciences, or a closely related field is required by the time of hire.

Applicants should submit (1) a current curriculum vitae, (2) a detailed statement of research interests and experiences relevant to the required qualifications, and (3) a list of three professional references. The review of applications will start immediately and continue until the position is filled. This position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with the possibility of renewal based on funding availability and satisfactory performance. The expected start date is on or after January 2025.
