Overview

Abacus Technology is seeking a Public Engagement Coordinator to provide logistical support and coordination for event activities at Wallops Flight Facility. This is a full-time position.



Responsibilities

    Serve as the public programming lead which includes the research, development and implementation of informal STEM programs for youth and adults , including school and scout programs, outreach, family and youth programs, as well as adult enrichment.
  • Develop, market, schedule, and lead live-led virtual and onsite field trips for K-12 student groups.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to develop, organize, and conduct STEM activities for NASA Center-unique events.
  • Assist with all aspects of visitor center/museum operations including exhibit maintenance and exhibit enhancements.
  • Assist with group tours of NASA's Wallops Flight Facility Main and Island Base.
  • Assist with visitor services.
  • Collaborate with staff, internal and external partners and NASA civil servants to plan and conduct public rocket launch viewing events.
  • Assist with program promotional efforts including design and distribution of promotional materials.


Qualifications

2+ years experience supporting public-facing educational programs. Bachelor's degree in a related field. Experience conceptualizing, leading, and curating all types of learning and educational engagement within a museum, science center or other informal education setting. Knowledge of informal education techniques including current trends in museum education as well as an understanding of museum audiences. Possess strong presentation and teaching skills, with great attention to detail. Excellent writing, editing, and verbal skills required. Strong organization, evaluation and analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well with diverse team members and NASA community. Experience with MS Office and webpage management. This position requires a Tuesday- Saturday in-person work schedule. Must be able to work occasional early morning or evening hours to support launch viewing events (approximately four times throughout the year). Must be a US citizen.
