THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is actively seeking a Therapeutic Activities Aide (TAA) to be a part of our activities team at Clarks Summit State Hospital. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Therapeutic Activities Aide positions are vital to ensure comprehensive therapeutic recreation services are being offered to patients. This occurs through the provision and coordination of programs and activities in the Therapeutic Recreation Department during the 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM shift. TAAs will allow the Therapeutic Recreation Department to maintain programming and activity opportunities for patients particularly during the 9:00 AM-11:00 AM and 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM programming times. You will have the opportunity to provide patients with increased unit activities, one to one visits, and community activity experiences through the participation of off-grounds activities. As a TAA, you will support all programming operations through escort and safety monitors and will assist with crisis prevention by carrying out additional group and individual activities for patients who need to be engaged based on the request of Treatment Team Leaders.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM or 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • You will work rotating weekends and holidays as assigned.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months of experience as an Aide Trainee (commonwealth title); or
  • Six months of work experience providing care to individuals requiring assistance with daily activities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
