Job Summary:
Westat has an opportunity for a Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team. In this role you will bring your experience to support the benefits administration for our 1800+ employee population, support compliance activities, open enrollment and leave administration. You will co-lead Westat's internal wellness program initiatives and work collaboratively with the Total Rewards team as well as Westat's internal stakeholders.
This position has a flexible work arrangement schedule to work 2 days onsite at our corporate office in Rockville, Maryland. Please note our corporate headquarters will be moving from Rockville, Maryland to Bethesda, Maryland in late 2025.
Job Responsibilities:
* Co-Leader of Wellness Program: Compile wellness articles, organize meetings and activities and maintain the internal wellness website.
* ACA compliance related projects including 1095c's, Federal and State mandated filings, etc.
* Conduct New Hire Orientations.
* Day to day administration of benefits and respond to employee inquiries.
* Lead Open enrollment activities such as presentations, open enrollment materials, testing the HRIS benefits configurations and related activities.
* Collaborate with Business Partners, Recruiters and the legal team with any benefits/leave related issues or questions.
* Liaison between the Field employees and the Cobra vendors for Direct Billing and Cobra administration.
* Streamline and automate processes and other projects as assigned.
* Provide back up support for Workers Compensation
* Provide backup for Administration of Leave: FMLA, Disability, Paid Parental Leave, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
* Typically requires a bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of corporate benefits administration experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state leave laws impacting benefits administration.
* Proven experience using Microsoft software including Excel for data analysis (pivot tables); PowerPoint presentations (creation) and virtual platforms such as Zoom, Teams (meeting administration).
* Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS).
Preferred Qualifications:
* CEBS/PHR/CP Certification preferred.
* Workday HRIS experience.

* Demonstrated communication skills.
* Collaboration with teams, managers and/or clients.
* Organization skills, including time management ability.
* Detail oriented.
